Click that link for me. The Auction of the People is over, and the final 17 decklists have been chosen for the Magic Invitational.
And I'm HORRIBLY dissapointed. Not because my decks didn't make it - Mine were twenty minute creations with a few neat toys, but nothing spectacular. I read about FAR more interesting decks from other people, all clinging tightly to a unique and interesting thematic base.
And this is what makes it? Oh, some of the decks are all very well. The Chicken deck, the Dragon deck, the Fungus deck, Imps, Knights, Legends, Spies, Walls, even Lords all see representation!
And what's this? A Homarid deck! Wow! I never even considered that creature type! And even more impressive, it's from Adrian Sullivan! And it's got -
Ten Homarid cards?
Ten?
Out of sixty?
Force of Will? Mana Drain? FIRESTORM? Recurring Nightmare? Is this some kind of joke? That's a THEME deck? What did he do, take a Type 1 control deck, remove ten random cards and make them Homarids? Surely you jest, Mr. Rosewater?
*sigh*
Oh, well. At least there's a Dwarf deck! With -
40 cards?
20 of which are lands?
What, he couldn't be bothered to hunt up a few more dwarf cards to play with? A quick search on MtGNews reveals several he didn't even bother with. And everything's in multiples of four?
Well, this is getting less impressive. Hey, there's a Rat deck! Made by-
Gary Wise? I thought he was competing... Can he do that? Oh, God! The decklist! 32x Plague Rats!? Well, at least he's creative in implementation... Of course, the deck is boring as all hell to actually PLAY.
Why do I get the distinct feeling MaRo found himself with three-thousand entries, and skimmed the lists for names he recognized? Then picked those decks regardless of quality? Because this is a JOKE, man. I see a few interesting decks, but nothing that makes up for the nonsense that is EDT's decklist. I mean, half of these decks have no consistant theme. The other half are fair to good (I like the Imp deck, and the Spy deck, a LOT), but nothing really makes up for the pathetic lists that obviously aren't even an ATTEMPT at a theme deck.
I'm sure someone's going to tell me I'm just mad because I didn't get picked. That person would be wrong. Of course, I would like to have one of my decks up there, but to be honest, I didn't deserve it. Duel showed me some VERY cool submissions he made, which all outrank my own - And not meaning any offense to him, I'm sure there were even MORE creative decks out there being submitted.
And we get this.
Note to self: The Auction of the People is the Auction of MaRo's buddies.
(Slight aside: The creator of the Imp deck apparently knows MaRo personally, and offers the suggestion that the other non-name players on that list are all friends of his as well, though he has no conclusive evidence of that. Or any evidence at all, for that matter.)
Is anyone else pissed?
