Click that link for me. The Auction of the People is over, and the final 17 decklists have been chosen for the Magic Invitational.

And I'm HORRIBLY dissapointed. Not because my decks didn't make it - Mine were twenty minute creations with a few neat toys, but nothing spectacular. I read about FAR more interesting decks from other people, all clinging tightly to a unique and interesting thematic base.

And this is what makes it? Oh, some of the decks are all very well. The Chicken deck, the Dragon deck, the Fungus deck, Imps, Knights, Legends, Spies, Walls, even Lords all see representation!

And what's this? A Homarid deck! Wow! I never even considered that creature type! And even more impressive, it's from Adrian Sullivan! And it's got -

Ten Homarid cards?

Ten?

Out of sixty?

Force of Will? Mana Drain? FIRESTORM? Recurring Nightmare? Is this some kind of joke? That's a THEME deck? What did he do, take a Type 1 control deck, remove ten random cards and make them Homarids? Surely you jest, Mr. Rosewater?

*sigh*

Oh, well. At least there's a Dwarf deck! With -

40 cards?

20 of which are lands?

What, he couldn't be bothered to hunt up a few more dwarf cards to play with? A quick search on MtGNews reveals several he didn't even bother with. And everything's in multiples of four?

Well, this is getting less impressive. Hey, there's a Rat deck! Made by-

Gary Wise? I thought he was competing... Can he do that? Oh, God! The decklist! 32x Plague Rats!? Well, at least he's creative in implementation... Of course, the deck is boring as all hell to actually PLAY.

Why do I get the distinct feeling MaRo found himself with three-thousand entries, and skimmed the lists for names he recognized? Then picked those decks regardless of quality? Because this is a JOKE, man. I see a few interesting decks, but nothing that makes up for the nonsense that is EDT's decklist. I mean, half of these decks have no consistant theme. The other half are fair to good (I like the Imp deck, and the Spy deck, a LOT), but nothing really makes up for the pathetic lists that obviously aren't even an ATTEMPT at a theme deck.

I'm sure someone's going to tell me I'm just mad because I didn't get picked. That person would be wrong. Of course, I would like to have one of my decks up there, but to be honest, I didn't deserve it. Duel showed me some VERY cool submissions he made, which all outrank my own - And not meaning any offense to him, I'm sure there were even MORE creative decks out there being submitted.

And we get this.

Note to self: The Auction of the People is the Auction of MaRo's buddies.

(Slight aside: The creator of the Imp deck apparently knows MaRo personally, and offers the suggestion that the other non-name players on that list are all friends of his as well, though he has no conclusive evidence of that. Or any evidence at all, for that matter.)

Is anyone else pissed?

Yeah, I pretty much feel the same way. The theme deck has to have an IDEA behind it. Of course, that said, 32x Plague Rats deck is a joke, and nothing more than that. However, I do feel bad for the people that actually put time and effort into designing original decks.

Well, I sort of disagree. Not looking at the decks but your assertion that it's just Maro's buddies. I only recognized three names on there, one of which vaguely from maybe articles or something. Are the rest pro players?

That said, the Rat deck is pretty disappointing; Zak Dolan posted one in the Duelist a while back when he was World Champion. I didn't really read the rest...

Some of the decks looked okay but most were junk. I am glad to see a knight deck the looks okay. And John's deck looks good. I am sorry there isn't an Angel deck. I like that the goblin deck has goblin bookies. but most of the decks are lame. I am pretty sure the pros are going to be greatly disappointed.

I too was very upset over this.......32 plague rats and 8 black lotus....what the !@#&*. I did however think that the Imp deck was pretty clever, and I liked John's Spy deck.

I admit that a few decks seemed... too broken for the format.

I was debating whether to put Thrull Wizard into the slot of a thrull deck, as it could hose zombies or somthing else like that...

And there's a Mana Drain in a deck.. Whatever happened to some knights fetching the Wrath of the Lord? Well, if a bunch of lobsters can channel the mana through a spell... Why not the All Powerful knights?

Some of the decks worked for me, but the rest were a bit rediculous...

Also, with reguards to the Plague Rat deck... I submitted a joke of 18 Swamps, 32 Rats, 10 Dark Rituals...

But I guess they want Star City to cough up twelve lotuses for this just for the hell of it...

:(

I wish I would have won... but then, I'm not Mr. wise.

It did seem a bit unfair that many of the people were "name players" instead of people who might have wanted the signed deck box...

Funny, one of the decks is titled "Impartial Impressions."

Gee... that's not the "impression" that I got.

I'm sure there were probably at least 20 variations on that Plague Rats deck that just submitting them as jokes like TheOrgg. But Wise won. As previously stated, wouldn't it have been so much cooler for fans and casual players to win this who would have appreciated the box much more? I know I would've been pretty darn proud to have a box autographed by Finkel/Pikula/whoever, and say I earned it. But what're Wise or EDT gonna care? They see these guys all the time anyway.

I only submitted one deck (Orcs), which I thought was darn clever, but probably wasn't special compared to some of the others submitted. But what about people like Zadok who submitted 20+ decks? This joke of a contest is really unfair to the guys that put a lot of time into coming up with original, zany decks, only to see Wise and 32 Plague Rats win.

Yeah. I submitted over 20 decks.
Actually, I LOVED John O's deck. The more I see of magic, the more I like Ormerod.

The only deck that pissed me off was EDT, who essentially put a kill method in a championship type 1 deck, and called it a theme deck. the others... I can live with. I LIKED the knight deck.

I wasn't too sure if I should have entered deck for this thing or not, but in the end I simply couldn't resist.
If Gary wins a deck box or something he'll give it away to someone who wants it.
I was surprised that so many of the decks that MaRo chose
were by name players and also that some of them do not
look like much fun to play (e.g. Rats, Dwarfs).
It's really quite hard to build a theme deck that both
fits its theme rigidly and results in good games when you play with it.
Cuneo's Wall deck is very clever.

Hey, congrats, John O! Your deck is actually one of the few I like in there.

Anyone know what the odds of 3 out of 17 decks being recognizable names are? I too felt like there was a partiality going on. And wasn't it in the rules that they needed to be at least 60 cards and no more than 4 copies of any non-basic land card? I could have sworn that the 4 copies rule was in force.

And creativity? A few of the decks are really creative. The Pooh Bear deck is cute, with a theme, but some of those are rediculous.

No rules were actually stated except "Theme decks." Everyone just assumed the 4x rule was enforced, as well as Type 1 restrictions (as evidenced by the Legends deck).

How about this?

You start a thread and everybody post there decks and we'll pick
17 that we think are better than what he/they chose. Not that
it really matters what we think and it won't change the outcome

but..........

I'd like to see some more of the CPA's creations.(some people
already posted a few of there ideas)

If someone has started this, let me know what forum it is in. I don't see one yet. If none have started, let me know and I will create one.

No one started as I can see... I say start it in Voting.

In fact, why don't we give a cut off date and then I (or another admin if they want) can edit the thread to put a poll on it, once all the decks are in.
