Well... as some of you know I began disappearing from the boards last Fall, and am hopefully now making a steady climb back into the fray... To save face, I've bought at least 3 packs of saviors, so hopefully I can catch up with some of the times...
but here's the gist of it all for those of you that may be interested...
Last Fall I was entering my final semester of school at my college (two-year) and for the load had to have an internship... well... my actual mandatory class load was 10 hours... So I enrolled for it... Then I began looking at the possibilities of where we would be moving to (and Maryland was one of the previous choices, but they informed me that my degree had nothing they could transfer... pity... It was nice meeting Spidey and his band of super-family members... and hope to travel there again soon...) so we began looking elsewhere... Unfortunately, my GPA wasn't the best and some schools gave me the big run around *cough* Texas A&M *cough* Uinversity of Texas *cough*... I did however get enrolled at the University of Houston... and though I applied for Architecture, they told me I would be accepted under Music... (doesn't make sense to me either...) Either way I was accepted...
Well to get into architecture I would have to "prove" my academic ability to them... So I entered as an undecided and did my best... I enrolled for 12 hours with Houston (bringing my total to 22) and had the unfortunate luck to have to travel all the way to Houston for the orientation of the online classes I would be taking... (and didn't get to stop by a single magic shop along the way... though Tim Weissman does have a nice store there...)
After getting back to San Angelo and completing the 8 hour drive, I woke up the next morning and thought - what if I don't do well enough to transfer into Architecture... So I looked at my options and Texas Tech would take me back under a strict probationary guideline... (my downfall started and ended at Tech previously...) well - This led to my wanting to do as little at Tech as possible - so I figured I would take my natural lab sciences and get them out of the way... online... and taking Physics 1 and 2 online is no easy task... especially when not having any lab equipment to do the labs... Thanks to ASU in San Angelo, a Magic friend of mine was the Physics department head, and lab equipment was a 5-minute drive away...
So now that I was taking 30 hours, I had to make it through the semester alive... and did so quite nicely... trust me - some online stuff was a breeze, blow-off even - but others were tough... rougher than the feature table at Worlds even...
So during the end of November and through December, we were packing up to move to Lubbock and back to old TTU... I transferred within the company so that was nice... my wife got a job with her degree in accounting, we picked up a Basset hound and got the girls into school, and the semester got ready to start...
(A little background info now - I've been doing a summer camp thing since I was in the 4th grade, and am still doing it - though I'm staff now... The organization has gone through some tough times, and I wanted to help out by being on the board once we moved back...)
I contacted some of my camping buddies, and began going to the board meetings - first order of business was getting me on the board, the next - booting the current president off... It's been a long process, but is working nicely now...
Soon I became so entwined with the group, that I became the national rep, and took over the executive director position and responsibilities. This entails all community relations and administrative duties you can imagine. I'm the secretary, Ed, program coordinator, community relations person, HR person, technical expert and the like... go figure...
Add this to my 20 hours a week with Town & Country and my school, and it is a pretty full load, but I don't back down from challenges, and it has been worth it...
Camp came and went, and we had our largest number of campers since 1999... yeah me... and my other helpers... We are already gearing up for next year, and hope it doubles in volume...
As for work - I was the internal security "auditor", but am now just and assistant manager... I completed this semester successfully, and am totally off probation... yeah me...
I am taking full-time summer school and begin Architecture this fall, and am looking forward to weeks of little sleep...
As for Magic, things are looking bright as the budget loosens and we finally settle in...
As for me on the boards - I'm working on it... and you won't be getting rid of me... unless some admin "abuses" their powers...
hehe...
I hope all of you are well...
see you online...
