The Fate of Elvish Champion

Well, with Llanowar Elves gone, what is left for Elvish Champion to lead?

We have other main set staples:
Elvish Lyrist
Seeker of Skybreak
Wood Elves
Fyndhorn Elder
Elvish Archers
Elvish Piper

Plus, they could add in a strange 1/2 weenies with:
Norwood Ranger

But other than that, elves are gonna be horrible to use in Type II. Unless, of course, Llanowar and Fyndhorn get a proud triplet brother in Onslaught Block. :)
What do you think? Elvish Champ any good anymore? Unlike goblins, they aren't too cheap. Llanowars helped out with the costs of his bigger siblings. Now he's gone...that bird pooped on his head, and perhaps all elf decks in general...

Good question, SeFRo.

One thing: Do we know Elvish Champion will be back? I certainly hope so. It's pretty dang cool to have an Elf lord to play around with.

It's funny you should mention the "triplet" idea. It just struck me today, actually, that that could be a possibility. Another bonus is that it would give Cradle Elf some more fire in Extended once the Fyndhorn are gone (too bad Pernicious Deed will still be around to ruin their fun).

The Lyrist will really need to stay in to give elves an excellent one-drop. Norwood Ranger would also be an interesting addition, although I don't know how much play it'd see (probably not much). I do think, though, that elves need a quality mana producer or manipulator...isn't that what elves are known for the most? Fyndhorn Elder and Wood Elves just don't cut it for me. Any chance for Priest of Titania in Eighth? Probably not. I guess we're just left to hope for a reprint of one of the mana elves (or a triplet) in a block. But do we even know that elves will be back anytime soon? Maybe it'd end up being a fraternal triplet to identical twins and be a druid or something.

Other thoughts on Elves in Eighth: Nomadic Elf would be nice to help smooth out some G/X Elf decks (I loved him in my CounterElf), and Quirion Sentinel would be great to give some extra speed to Elf beatdown. I wouldn't mind seeing either of 'em.

Actually, I LIKE Wood Elves, but would like to see the Fynhorn Elder to, to quote Kurt Vonnegut "Take a flying **** at a rolling doughnut, take a flying **** at the MOOOOOON!"-from Kurt Vonnegut's novel Slapstick, or Unhappy No More!

Sad how not only did the elves lose their Llanowar lieutenants, they also lost the Seeker sergeants. Sad, sad, sad.

Is a T2 elf deck even possible now that 8E is out? Who cares, we play casual. :D

It will be interesting to see how elves are spiced up with the Mirrodin stuff.

The biggest reason elves are viable is coat of arms...

Their speed at mana makes them killers around turn 4/5...
