The Amazing Race: Families

So, at this point, we don't really care who wins, we just don't want the Weavers to win. Those people are so annoying and the worst part is that they don't get it. They act so persecuted, but don't seem to realize that the reason everyone is "mean to them" is because of all the crap that they pull. Like throwning trash out of the window at other people, and telling the ranger to detail you for a while, etc...

All of which is made worse by the fact that they hide behind being "religious" and "so much better than everyone else". For example, at one point they comment that, "we're the only team left that won't just spend the money on breast enhancements..."

Give your fellow human beings a little credit...

Okay, we went on an Amazing Race marathon last night and got all caught up.

In the past three hours (the two hour show and last week's show), it seems that knowing your way to whereever you're going is key. Each leg, it was a lost car that caused the team to come in last: The Branson's for the first non-elimination, the Paolo's for the elimination, and the Weaver's for the second non-elimination. Also, paying attention to your surroundings helps. The Linz family had a chance to be second on the copter to the Butte as they rushed past the Godlewski family, but missed the number chart on their way to the clue box.

And counting helps. It was hilarious when the Paolo family was putting on their clothes when they thought they were the last to arrive and then here came the Branson family.

I can now see what you're saying about the Weaver family but who knows, maybe it just the incidents that the show wants us to see and they're fine all the rest of the time. The throwing of trash out the window was a bit much, but truly, the Linz family is just as bad. The Godlewski family did try to sympathize with them on the go-cart track, which the Weavers blew off, so perhaps they don't deserve the Weaver's snide remarks.

There was a probably a lot of little stuff but three hours is a lot :) Oh, I guess it turned out all right for the Godlewski family after coming in last to the camping grounds because their car battery died due to a crew member's fault (or so it sounded like) rather than their own; I was thinking if it was a pit stop, they should get time added.

I don't disagree that the Linz family is pretty bad with laying on the hate. I think what get's me about the Weaver family, though, is that they are pretty self-righteous about it and don't recognize the fact that what they are doing is inappropriate.

If you were to ask the Linz family, for example, if they were being rude to the Weavers, they would probably say, "heck yeah, wait 'til you see what we do next.".

You may be right that it's just what we see, but just about every team talked about wanting to yield them, so I have to think some of it is how they rub people.

Yeah, I concur with their inability to see their own hypocrisy. The whole marathon got us thinking, what exactly started it all? DId the Weavers do or say something specifically to get the other teams against them or was it just a gradual thing as time went on?

Seems they need to work out issues with their cameras. Last night was the second time that a technical problem with a camera put a team into last place. It would be pretty upsetting to see a team get eliminated through no fault of their own.

As it was, they got set back at least 90 minute (possibly exactly 90 minutes :D) by the problem. But it also gave other teams a 15-minute jump start which potentially gained them that same 90 minutes.

If you haven't seen last night's episode, I'll just say that it was another one of those "this isn't the end of this leg" episodes. If it had been a pitstop, there is a good chance that the camera problem would have eliminated a team.

Don't want to give anything away...Close ending, though. It would be really interesting to see to what level they go to make things seems closer than they really are.

For example, the whole "stuck in traffic" stuff lets them very easily make it seem like things are close. In the final challenge of this one, it was very clearly close (no disguising it), but it would be interesting to know if they show the progress out of order ever to make it seem closer than it really is. The very ending of the challenge (the way it happened), it was clear just how close things were, but throughout the challenge, there were times when it appeared that who was ahead changed continuously.

I'll wait until I know you've seen it to comment more.

We managed to watch it while at Disney :)

Yeah, this was the closest that could be seen. And it was annoying how they keep switching shots during the final challenge without providing some definite continuity or maybe some wide-angle shot to show them at the same time. But either team could have won - they pretty much rated the same in our book. The Weavers... kind of glad they fell behind. They were getting annoying with their complaining and whining.
