The Tentacled One
This deck ties together a few different threads. Ordinarily, I try to build some thematically appropriate deck for Thanksgiving every year. Well, after a couple of years I established that my Halloween deck must have All Hallow's Eve and that my Christmas deck must use snow-covered lands. Since then, I've gradually refined the rules for how my holiday theme decks are built. The Easter deck must use Golden Egg, the Independence Day (U.S.) must be white/blue/red, and Thanksgiving, well, never really had its own rule. Some have been focused on food, but others more on sharing or helping. I missed doing a Thanksgiving deck last year and missed doing an Independence Day deck this year. So I knew that I needed *something* with a Thanksgiving-appropriate theme.
Ever since the release of *Strixhaven* in 2021, I have wanted to build a deck with a commander who shows a strong connection to tea. I thought that Dina, Soul Steeper was a very cool character concept. However, the card itself is a bit too overpowered for my purposes. I wanted a tea-themed commander that would be fun to actually play, not one that would just go all-in on broken combos.
I try to build some EDH deck helmed by a commander from each new set that comes out. Most of the commander options in this new Avatar set don't really appeal to me. But playing a bunch of allies could be fun.
Iroh, Tea Master ties these threads together. This was bound to be commander I'd pick. I haven't seen the show, but Iroh's enthusiasm for tea has me on board already.
