I thought Teferi was a planeswalker? According to wizards, they claimed they would never make a planeswalker into a card since essentially the player is a planeswalker. The only occasion that such a card existed was blind seer who is essentially urza in disguise. Whats the dealio with teferi?

This is a past-Teferi back from when he was just a lowly wizard apprentice..

Same thing applies to Jaya. (she transformed into something/someone else or something, but the card shows the original burn-friendly mage)

Apparently a planeswalker doesn't have the power to phase his lovely lands back in... so he tossed his spark at it and that's what finally phased his lands back in.

That card is him modern. He's a human, not a planeswalker, now.

Nightstalkers has it right. In the very last part of the novel, he committed suicide to help phase Shiv back in. However, he survived it, minus his planeswalking spark. A hefty chunk of Jamuura is still incoming, so they need to find another planeswalker, and fast! Two other walkers shown so far are Freyalise and Nicol Bolas, but neither seem like they'd wanna help.
