T2 Bargain Donate

First off I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Tony, a.k.a. Gyrik. I am on the channel #apprentice on the newnet server of Mirc, and on the Dojo chat, both quite frequently. This deck that I am posting is quite unique. I call it "Bargain Donate." I got the idea from a friend who calls himself "Lunchbox" (Quite frankly, I can't remember his real name, I think it's Brandon something-or-another.) Anyway, he came up with the idea when he was a *bit* tipsy (He is over 21) needless to say, it is quite interesting. Before we go any further, here is a decklist.

//NAME: T2 Bargain-Donate
// Land -- 25
4 City of Brass
4 High Market
1 Island
3 Peat Bog
4 Phyrexian Tower
3 Remote Farm
4 Saprazzan Skerry
2 Swamp
// Artifacts -- 4
4 Eye of Ramos
// Black Spells -- 15
4 Dark Ritual
4 Skirge Familiar
4 Vampiric Tutor
2 Yawgmoth's Bargain
1 Yawgmoth's Will
// Blue Spells -- 12
4 Hoodwink
4 Donate
4 Delusion of Mediocrity
// White Spells -- 4
4 Academy Rector

The point of this deck is similar to trix. Use Delusion to gain life, Donate to give it to your opponent, and hoodwink to cuase them to lose life, then do it again. Pitch cards to the skirge for mana. Remember that you can sac the Eye of Ramos to get an additional blue mana. The Will is to reuse your Eye of Ramos, it is not key to the deck, so I only ran one. This deck usually goes off around turn 3-4, but this deck isn't like the normal baragain, cause you don't use graveyard recursion to win. It may not be as reliable as saber and easier to disrupt, both because it uses 3 colors, instead of one. I don't know if this deck would be any good in a real tournament, and seeing as to how combo isn't very fun in casual play, I don't know if this deck will see the light of play. O-well, it was fun to tweak and fun to play, see you when I get another deck idea or I get bored.

Neh? No Flickers? Seem like they fit the task nicely, though they don't have the nice versitility of Hoodwink, they also end up costing you 4 less mana since you don't have to recast the Delusions...

"Did I miss something obvious again?"

There is a problem with Flicker I hadn't considered. With Hoodwink, total mana required to 'go off' is UUU8 for each 'rotation.' With Flicker, that cost becomes UW5. Now, while going off, you have Eyes of Ramos to provide you with the blue mana; where's the white coming from? Replacing one of the Eyes won't work, as you can't guarantee your drawing it. So that may cause troubles while going off.

One option to solve this problem is to *shudder* take out the Yawgmoth's Will as well as one of the Eyes for twin Teeth of Ramos.

Oooh! Brainflash! How 'bout playing only 3 Flickers? Since the combo technically doesn't _require_ the Flicker (i.e., you can go off without it, it just takes two Delusions and two Donates), you should, in theory, be able to reduce to three and still keep the consistancy of the deck. *IN THEORY*

Oh, damn. I dunno. I'm rambling now...

"Combo technician, five by five."

I bult something similar, but based in the Replenish engine, not the Bargain engine.

Duress and Hoodwink are key disruption to their base, and Hoodwink double up as kill. This is VERY rough draft, and I think it`s probably about a hundred times too clever for it`s own good.
Feel free to pick holes (like you needed my permission)
:)

4 Duress
2 Vampiric Tutor
3 Dark Ritual
3 Yawgmoth`s Bargain
(12)

1 Peace And Quiet
4 Replenish
(17)

3 Hoodwink
4 Attunement
4 Donate
2 Frantic Search
4 Delusions Of Mediocrity
4 Parallax Tide
(37)

3 City Of Brass
4 Adarkar Wastes
4 Underground River
6 Swamp
6 Island
(60)

NB: You often use the Tide to Turnabout your own lands to set up the kill. Take out your own lands, kill the Tide, lands return untapped.

I think it basically has too high a requirement for the kill, ie: two Delusions, two Donate, and 8 mana minimum (2 Donate, 1 Peace And Quiet), plus four land in play, a Ritual in hand would be nice, and you need to have found one of your W mana lands.
Hmm, after reading that back I`m inclined to put the deck to bed straight away.

But technically it has an okay chance of seeing all that if the Bargain comes out off the Replenish. I think the mana problem is going to be the biggest stumbling block, there doesn`t seem to be any acceptable way of stepping up from the four mana for the Replenish to the eight for the kill.

But with spells like Duress that can become whatever you want to help the deck win, this could work fine with a bit more effort put into it. Don`t know if Prophecy helps it, either.

I've actually played against a deck similar to these, and without the white. It fizzled against my Con-Troll deck 2 out of 3 games and the guy playing it went 0-2 or 0-3 and dropped out of the tourney. This same guy was always top 8 in UBC qualifiers with Exhume-Bargain, and he had a 1900 or so standard rating, so he knew what he was doing. The deck just crumbles to counterspells, and if you are going to play combo, there are going to be counterspells. Disenchant or Erase in response to Donate is also pretty darn bad, too.

i actually playtested the flicker in the deck and i came to the conclusion that the flickers added would disrupt the synergy of the deck. by adding the flicker, you increase the reliance on white, making it harder for the deck to get the correct mana sources. i was playtesting this deck, and not once did i ever come accross the problem of not enough mana for the combo to go off, so i believe that i will stick with my hoodwinks and have the only white in this deck be the rectors.

in response to the non-tourney-worthiness of this deck, i had already stated that this deck would probably not do too well in a tournament, seeing as to how it is much easier to disrupt than saber bargain, therefore it it not a viable deck. this deck is just up for some thoughts by other players, and some fun, thanks for your concern tho....
