Sadly, no I didn't :( The site went down a few days before I got my new computer. But RabidKimba Pm'ed me a while back and said that he's done with Strategy and Theory section and should be done with columns by the end of the week. Not sure how soon after the PM the site went down, so it would better if he posted here saying how much of columns he got :)

Edited: I did however start to back up Starcity's articles. Not to bring bad Karma to it or anything - I hopes it stays on forever - but anything can happen. So far I just got Ferrett's, Alongi's, and Rizzo's Articles backed up.

Well, I got all of the available strategy and columns, like the ones that weren't on thedojo.net, which expired a long time ago. By the way - it actually has been useful, as seen by
this article from starcity.
If anyone needs single articles, or articles by a specific author, (columns are easiest for me), email me (rabidkimba@hotmail.com), cuz I'm not checking PMs much these days... If you need a strategy article by someone, it'd be easiest if you give me their full name, and date if possible. (like if John Smith wrote the article on september 23, 1999, the file name would look like 92399jsm.html) Or something like that. If you live near GA, and are going to GA states or GP: ATL, email me at rabidkimba@hotmail.com, and we can probably work something out. I think Sammy Dead-O got one from me, and so did Ransac.

BTW - is mindripper down? They haven't been updating for a long time. Maybe now's the time to start backing it up, too.... (ditto with newwave).
Finally, do you guys know where mtgword is getting their articles from? They've been posting a bunch of dojo articles, especially Wakefield. ^_^

SURELY theres some way of putting this stuff back into the public domain?

The Dojo itself wont have any rights over it unless they had the writers sign agreements not to show their stuff anywhere else. The individual writers have the right to object to their stuff being posted, but I think they wont do so because as long as its accredited to them then they wont have a problem.

This stuff should be put back into the public domain ASAP I had no idea anybody had any of the old Dojo records.

What a coincidence! I just read in the Washington Post tech section about a site that has copies of 10 billion web pages from 1996 to the present! I checked it out for the Dojo and it has several years worth, starting in '98.

Go to Internet Archive and put the www.thedojo.com in the search page and it ought to come up.

Yeah, the Dojo's dead, and so is John F. Kennedy.

Sad, ain't it...

Well, at least no one is objecting to our rifling through its dead body... :D

That quote (from Space Odyssey) actually makes a great deal of sense in this situation... But it's still random.

A couple of things....

One: Spidey - you're a genius dude :) The fact that all this info is still kept is amazing. Great job in finding that site :)

Two: Not all things work - though most do. One of Alongi's articles didn't work. That said, some of the stuff that wouldn't work even when dojo was still up (ex.: fro thedojo.net) works, as in some Deck Histories and Im guessing most of the stuff that was positioned on thedojo.net. So not only do we have most of the stuff that we never thought we'd see again, there's also some articles/decks/etc. that were missing even when the site was up, which is great.

Three: Here's a little shortcut (or a time saver) when saving someone's columns. What I personally do is, I have Word open. Press Ctrl+N (new document) open an articvle from the author's page in a new window. While it's loading I copy the articles's title, and save the new doc as such. Then select and ctrl + c whatever I want copied, Alt+Tab back to word, paste it, and hit ctrl + s. Yeah, it kind of sounds elementary, but it saves a whole lot of time. Of course with .txt articles or some Columns without the bars/advertisements/etc. it's easier to just go "save as" in Internet Explorer. My way may not work for everyone, but if you have a fast computer, this is a good way to archive stuff.

Well, hope some of this helped :)

<--------------- VERY happy to see the Dojo suff again

K, time to start the file-leecher back up. :D

EDIT: not only is it slow, but it only has archives back from March of last year.... the dojo didn't go down until January of 2001, so it's missing 10 months of content. I'll back up files if you guys think its worthwile, and you guys can choose which section I should do first:

Decks to Beat
Tournament Reports
PTQ Reports
Event Coverage
Community
World of Magic
News & Rumors
Rules & Regulations
Casual Play
Humor
and the other two don't matter. (also, for those that haven't read the whole thread, I did columns + strategy and theory.)

You know, I can't imagine how much more I would have finished before the Dojo went under if only I had DSL..... downloading 175 megs on a BAAAAD 56k connection sucks. (Yes, my dojo folder is 175 megs.)

Kimba I think you are wrong. Accessing from a date in march 2001 I was able to read through all of the old backpages to look at decklists from anywhere between about June'97 and March'01.

Its all there.
ALL of it.
Just internal server pressure because the Internet Archive is currently receiving a bucketload of new hits is causing the service to be intermittent.

Thanks Giz, I was about to delete that bookmark from my list.... I'll probably just bring about 10 disks to school and get about 10 megs / day. Right now, I'm not even trying to go to the site because my 56k is running at 31k or lower. =\
