This isn't a plea to our favourite resident web-slinger, but rather, aboot the movie that's come out recently!

I think its a good movie, not spectacular, but good. It did however, smash box-office records, so maybe others have conflicting opinions.

I think it followed the classic story line pretty well. If it didn't, many would be disappointed. Plus, Stan lee was executive producer.

The opening theme of the movie was great!! But the rest of the movie's music, I felt, was rather boring.

Plus, I don't know if anyone else noticed, but in one shot, you can see an Invasion (as in the expansion) poster hanging in Peter Parker's room. I guess the magic community can now brag that Spiderman plays magic ^_^

Your thoughts?

I went in with incredibly low expectations, so I was one of the few pleasantly surprised. I'm used to anime, where characters are actually multi-dimensional (in the better stuff, that is), so some of the characters in Spiderman were a little simplistic to me, but I'm sure they were more complicated than those in, say, Batman. I actually think this movie functions just as well as an action movie and as a drama. That is reason enough for many people not to like it, but I thought it was good.
It reminded me of Greek theater a lot, with a lot of the same sorts of themes (except with more latex;)).

As for the poster... You wait and see, there'll be another Spider creature printed soon...

I liked it. I thought it was corny in places (demonic laughter comes off better in comics than on the screen, and they don't even say "You haven't seen the last of me, Spiderman!" in the comics anymore. And the ending bugged me. But all in all, I liked it.

I loved it. It was better than Superman or Batman. There was a lot of emotion in this movie, which is exactly what I expected from Spiderman. The deviations from the comic canon were done in good taste, and I feel that their casting choices were near-flawless. Best of all, I had a great time watching it. Funny, too.

This from a female persepctive, of course. ;)

I saw this over the weekend with my sister's fiancee; dopey me thought that despite it being Memorial Day weekend and going to a theater that had about 4-5 screen still devoted to it, we could walk up and get tickets. Nope, the show we wanted was sold out and just barely got tickets to the next available show (which was about 3 times later).

I thought Willem Dafoe did an excellent job along with Maguire. Dunst was a bit iffy though, maybe it was because she didn't get a lot of screen time (relatively). But the movie was great overall.

Spoiler!!!!!

Here's a question: It looked like she knew Parker was Spiderman at the end. Why? Was it because he said "It's all I have to give" or something like that? And did Spiderman say that line to her at some point?

I thought the movie was pretty good.

But Star Wars blew it away completely :)

And by Christmas, LOTR 2 is going to be even better :D

Well I finally saw this. I was sick the past 2 days. I was feeling better yesterday afternoon and thought I'd see what was on.
It was the deal of the month for 1.99. So I got to see it. And Spidey, my impression was that she recognized the kiss. It seemed like she lifted her hand to her lips briefly. But I could be wrong. I did like the movie. I especially liked that there was a little learning curve there with the new powers.

I'm going to have to rent this to see if there really is an invasion poster on the wall!...

I'll have to do it while the Mrs. isn't around though... I had a hard time taking her to Daredevil, but she loved it...;)

Daredevil?!? Dont' get me started on that movie. Dreck. Pure dreck, and an insult to anyone that's ever read the comic. Mrs. Steffen's friend (Jennifer Garner) was the only saving grace of that movie.

rkoelsch: Yeah, that seems to be the concensus from other people I asked.

train: I watched it again last month and I think there is a Magic poster in his room... :)

Don't really feel the urge to see Daredevil or The Hulk when it comes out... maybe X-Men 2, but probably on video... just waiting for Spiderman 2 now.

I'm probably in the minority here, but while I liked Spiderman, I thought that the villain was annoying and the learning curve was often cheesy.

I agree with some of the complaints about Daredevil (glosses over certain character's development), but I liked the movie. I thought the fight scene in the park was great.

Having seen none of these movies, I... have no reason to post. But I will anyway.

"Glosses over character development"?

They turned Matt Murdock into a friggin' murderer! He's supposed to value life at all costs! He's supposed to sacrifice himself to save bad guys! And by no means is he supposed to say, while holding a limp crook in a subway tunnel, "See that light at the end of the tunnel? It ain't God." That wasn't even Daredevil, that was a lookalike impersonating him with Ben Affleck's voice. And what was with that coffin bit? My gosh! Aaargh!

Sorry Apollo, but I don't necessarily agree with your complaint, but the other could be considered character development. Why does he value life at all cost, as you put it? Well, at the beginning of the movie, he doesn't. By the end of the movie, he does and we understand why.

Okay, perhaps this wavers from how this is treated in the comic books. Or perhaps the comics don't develop this side of his personality and just say it is there from the beginning.

But if the main reason why you don't like the movie is because of the train scene not being true to the character, than I think you're not looking at the whole thing.

I have a mild interest in seeing DareDevil, a HUGE interest in seeing X-2, and I thought SpiderMan was a pretty good movie overall. I missed the Magic poster, though. I'll have to watch it again.

What I find REALLY amazing is that a day after my birthday LAST year (5-29-2002) was the last post, and it took ten months (03-28-2003) & Rkoelsch for it to come back.

When I referred to your character development comment, I was saying that it was a huge understatement. Not only were the characters' developments "glossed over," they were changed entirely. It's not just the train, he was a psycho murderer for much of the film.

And it's not just Daredevil--Elektra went from being Greek royalty (comics) to the daughter of a New York crime boss. In the comics she didn't have any fighting skills at all until after her father was killed and she went to study with a sect of ninjas. For that matter, she was the psycho murderer of the pair. And they got rid of Stick, who is the one that taught Murdock to fight--in the movie he just suddenly knows how. And I must reiterate the whole "chamber of solitude" coffin bit; how stupid!

In short, perhaps the movie is more enjoyable if you haven't read the comics, but as someone that used to be a huge Daredevil fan, they changed the whole spirit of the character.
