Ok rephrase. Do you feel you know what you are doing to fix watches. Is that what you do for a living?

I know what I am doing when I am repairing a watch and yes, I do it for a living.

I have an old pocket watch passed down from my dad. The one hand I believe has come off and is just sitting in the glass gassing. Needs fixing.

Hands coming off would be a sign of trauma to the watch. The hand is either replaced or staked to fit securely onto the cannon pinion.

Do you know how old the watch is? Is it a keywind?

I believe its a wind up..not sure if its keywind. Not sure on the age..My mom has it. I will try and get it when I go see her. Give you some more info then. Not even sure what make or model it is.

Even if it is a relatively recent style pocket watch there were oddly designed ones that are relatively expensive to repair. I remember selling Hebdomas pocketwatches when I had a store and today you cannot get parts for them without cannabalizing another pocketwatch.
