File this under “strange but true,” because a 31-year-old gamer from western China literally perished in front of his PC this year after a particularly rousing 20-hour nonstop session of the online multiplayer game Saga. Internet café employees reported that the victim usually played for 10 hours a day nonstop. But it caught up with him. Doctors speculate that the actual cause of death was an embolism resulting from physical inactivity that moved into his heart.

While video game haters are quick to blame the medium, we have this to say: Doing anything for an abnormally long period of time without sleep or proper nutrition will probably do you in.

An embolism can happen for no apparent reason. Not that I think what he was doing is healthy, but blaming his death on the game is ridiculous in many ways...

One dork dies in front of his computer and it's newsworthy.

Countless fatties suffer heart attacks and strokes in front of the idiot box but that's too common place.

That's because computers are the devil but TV is full of nothing but good...

Well, probably it's because the former doesn't happen all that much while the latter is (as you said) pretty commonplace.

*mumbles something about priorities*

Maybe Saga should include the body suit controller - so physical activity occurs while playing it...

;)
