Simple. Made for late-game, where you have more mana than you'll ever need, but would rather have cards.

Try it in multiplayer. You'll see why it's so good. Also is fun for recursion (Planar Birth or creature recursion.)

On a strategical note: The lands don't have to be untapped (do they?).

I'm with FoR (will that suit as a shortened version of your name? I don't wanna type Foundation of Rancor every time... :) ) on this topic. I mean, if you don't want land late game, play Abundance, or Trade Routes, or another generally BETTER card that doesn't give you the amazing power of card disadvantage...

I like sacking stuff for cool effects (note my tagline), but this? You have to play two lands, that's two turns down the hole right there. Of course, you get two cards to make up for that, but it takes time... Oh, hell. Now I'm tearing my own argument apart. :)
