This deck is using cards that are FAR FAR better than shared fate and could really complement ANY combo.. but still..

heres what im working with...

*Find the Rat*

12 Swamps
8 Island

4 Diabolic Vision
4 Lim-Dul's Vault

16 Relentless Rats
4 Cranial Extraction

4 Shared Fate
4 Ancestral Knowledge
4 Impulse/ Aether Vial/ Ritual

With Aether Vial you could feasibly play their creatures or pump out some rats if you wanna go that route.

It's basically the idea of rat-straction but with all the best, non-risky search cards blue and blue/black has to offer.

That and its not as boring as running a bunch of tutors.

If youre not familiar with the search cards.. Ancestral is 1U to look at the top 10 cards, remove or rearrange, with a CU of 1.. usually 1 is all you need.

Diabolic vision UB, sorcery, look at the top 5 cards of your library.. one in your hand..

limdul's vault UB look at the top 5 cards.. if you want to look at the next 5 cards, pay 1 life each time.. you can do this as much as you want and when you're done.. rearrange those top 5.

so maybe like
T1: Island
T2: Swamp, vault, searching for a ritual (you have a shared fate and a cranial in hand along with 2 lands) after paying 4 life you rearrange the top 5 to.... ritual, impulse, fate, island, swamp
T3: island, draw the ritual, throw down a fate
T4:swamp, cranial... wait and laugh.. then try to play cards from their library while they can um... search.. . and uh... search.. and maybe cast cranial on their deck...

or just go the normal route of searching for more rats and vials,

T1: Swamp, Vial
T2: Island, add 1 counter, impulse (finding a swamp, 3 rats in hand)
t3: Swamp, Play a rat, vial a rat
T4: you draw a lim dul, play a rat, lim dul for a rat, etc,etc

Any thoughts?

Diabolic Vison is a horrible, horrible card. You should replace it with something else. You already have Impulse, but maybe Brainstorm...

I don't think its horrible.. its an impulse for 5 cards.. only difference is its not an instant.

And there is the minor factor that it puts the other cards on the top of your library instead of the bottom, which is pretty horrible...

Diabolic Vision isn't horrible. His deck doesn't need mana open so it doesn't matter it it's a sorcery. If you see 2 cards in the top five that you like, it's better than Impulse. But most of the time Impulse is better, and the vast majority of the time Brainstorm is better.

Brainstorm is the better card for this slot, though. With Shared Fate out, Brainstorm gives you 3 "draws" and lets you put two cards back on top of your deck so you pick what your opponent will draw. If you Brainstorm with no cards in hand, it's Ancestral Recall.

I got wrecked by a Shared Fate deck that was packing things like Tolarian Winds and Merchant Scrolls. Tolarian Winds is just really disheartening to draw off someone else's deck with Shared Fate in play.

It really is.

Okay, so it depends on how strict your standards are, but since you agree with me that Brainstorm is better, I'll just let the issue die. I mean, it's not horrible in the same way that Adventurer's Guildhouse is or anything...

Diabolic Vision is like card advantage extreem, guys. I don't know what your problem is.

If by "card advantage extreem" you mean "good at letting you know what the top four cards of your library are" then yes...

Thing is, i don't need to put cards on the bottom of my library. I have tons of search and not that many different cards to choose from.. if i look at the top 5, play a shared.. that's all i wanted...
and if i find an ancestral knowledge.. probably all i needed as well.. besides.. i've impulsed before and said... damn.. all good cards.. just not in the order i wanted..

plus its 5 instead of 4, same cost, and it has really cool artwork.. plus i have 4 whiteborder versions i've wanted to play for a while.:D

No!

Impulse isn't good because it puts cards on the bottom of your library. It is good because it digs through four cards, lets you take the one you need most, and puts the rest where they won't bother you.

The order of the cards from an Impulse doesn't matter at all, so I don't know what you are talking about.

Brainstorm draws three cards, and forces you to put two cards from your hand back. Unless the cards you drew were the ones you needed, or you had a shuffling effect, this would give you two dead draws in a row.

Diabolic Vision costs UB (compared to 1U for Impulse and U for Brainstorm) and is a sorcery rather than an instant. It digs five cards deep and lets you have one, but puts the others back on top of your library, giving you four dead draws in a row unless you have a shuffle effect or can really use the cards that you didn't pick.

And there's Lim-Dul's Vault, which costs the same as Diabolic Vision, is an instant, and can dig five cards deep multiple times if you're willing to pay enough life, although it doesn't actually put anything in your hand.

Out of all of these cards, Diabolic Vision is easily the worst. I don't see any reason to use it.

awww.. but my deck has key cards i want to cast.. and theres tons of the same card.. diabolic is one of multiple searchers..
dead draws in a deck with 16 of the same card, assuming im not mana screwed shouldn't be an issue.

Just because you can use it doesn't make it good...

Besides, in this case Brainstorm is better, hands down.

I think Fact or Fiction could easily replace the diabolic, and net you more cards too...;)

Oh - it's also an instant, and there's no life loss...;)

My fact of fictions are long gone, i sold em for $6 when they came out. Never really liked them much.

I used to say the same, but the card is really useful in a number of decks (the sort of deck's Train does not play).

A different approach I've seen: a friend of mine combined shared faith with his elves. He ran all kind of mana producing/fetching elves to obtain all 5 colors of mana. and he uses Wirewood Symbiotes.

The symbiote is already nuts in an elf deck (e.g. return viridian shaman to untap wellwisher), but with shared faith, you can still return elves to your hand and play then, thus still play with your own deck AND use the cards of your opponents.

Any bouncing strategy should work great with Shared Faith and there a a lot of options: cavern harpy, tradewind rider, waterfront bouncer, vedalken mastermind.

Just combine those with cards like Raven Familiar (I always prefer these above impuls), man-'o-war, boneshredder, ... :D
