Shandalar Question

I got a copy of shandalar from the online site where you can dl it (Spidey provided the link - can't recall it now)...

Anyways... I know and accept the fact it's buggy and crashes... but it used to work better on my PC than it does now... After I got some sort of update - I don't know which one it was (windows, video driver, quicktime, media player, etc)... The cards don't show down below in the deck editor, I have to move the colors into the deck and sell cards/modify my deck that way. It's inconvenient, but it sorta works... however it does not bring in any nonbasic lands (including duals)...

Anyone else have this problem? Or know of a solution? Anyone ever try to link two machines together for a sealed game? I actually bought a copy of the game for a friend when it was new - and one of the expansions...

I really wish WotC would make a newer version of this game with better AI and newer cards... It is a lot of fun - and even with it's poor AI, it still wins games now and then - even on square footing. I don't care for MtG Online... too expensive to buy virtual cards... I was a beta tester for it, and it is fun though... Just too spendy for this parent... plus it's real hard to convince your wife you "need" it.

I'm thinking I'll install Shandalar on an old laptop I have and at least hopefully be able to resolve the deck editor issue.

I haven't run it on XP (are you running on XP or Vista?). Have you tried running it in one of the compatibility modes?

Nothing Special
I had a lot of trouble trying to get Shandalar to work on my new computer. The only thing that worked for me was installing a Windows 98 emulator, which I think you can get free off Microsoft's site (try googling it.)
The emulator uses a ridiculous amount of memory and the game still has bugs (sometimes when you leave a town, the screen turns black and you need to restart), but it works pretty well overall.
Despite the cost, I still prefer MTGO.

The Tentacled One
I have Windows 2000 and old games that were supposed to run on DOS, etc. work fine for me (I do play Shandalar on my computer in addition to some even older games). With a newer OS, probably the only option is to get one of those emulator things.

Doxbox is what you'll need to make it work if you're using XP... otherwise you should dual boot Win98SE if you wanna play them oldies.

Other than that, Shandlar is buggy on XP. No gettin' around it.

I wasn't sure if DOSBOX would work with Shandalar since it wasn't a straight up DOS game... but I guess it could work.
