Shadowmoor Prereleases

Judged the Pittsbugh PR. I had a good time.

I mostly took care of the 2HG flights and did my best to make sure players had FUN. Two GASP members played in one of them and one of thier games went to nearly time (60 min), they were down 22 - 1 when their opponents hit a land clump in both decks for several turns. This was good for Team GASP since the player drew into the black enchantment that has each opponent lose life equal to the amount of damage they recieved this turn. They a few flying creatures that they were holding back for blocking but it was time to win. The look on their opponent's faces was precious, it something like this:  to  to :(

Fortunately there were no team names that I had to say out loud that were embarrasing like the time last year I had to call for "Team Cleveland Steamer" over the microphone.........I was unaware of its "Urban" meaning  . Oh these silly players, another team two PR's ago wanted to call themselves "Two girls and a......." well, if you don't know the rest of the title and/or the meaning then you're better off. I stopped them asap as they were about to sign up.

Mooseman had a difficult day since 1.) he forgot his hat; 2.) He forgot his Pop-Tarts; and 3.) He nearly forgot to get coffee for one of the head tourney organizers, not his job but lucky for him we all wanted coffee and went to the local Bruggersbagels store (A Starschmucks clone).

The question of the day was about the negation of the +1/+1 counters and the -1/-1 counters and the card of the was that 4/4 Flash Flyer White/Blue Hybrid card, I saw it everywhere but the colors of the day were Black & Red, we nearly ran out of extra Swamps and Mountains for the flights.

Forgot his hat? What's up with that? Was it his "lucky" hat or something?

That +1/+1 and -1/-1 ctr question was in an Ask Wizards or part of one of those card preview articles, I can't remember...

Actually, you probably did have to announce an embarrassing team name. You just don't know it yet.

Two girls and a cup?

A, good ol'e memories :D

This Saturday I went to Rotterdam to play the first Dutch prerelease.

I met up with some friends there (after I signed up), and the tournament started pretty soon after. The main tournament had about 60 participants, while the 2-headed giant event consisted of 18 teams.

I played in the singles, and opened a decent pool, out of which I made something GWr (I mean, triple Mercy Killing?!).
Started out nice, with an Augury Adept enchanted by Steel of the Godhead (making it 4/4 lifelink unblockable, when it deals damage you may reveal the top card of your library, gain life equal to it's converted manacost and put it into your hand). When I revealed my first Tower Above my opponent scooped ;)
Second game I did basically the same thing, except I replaced the Adept with the BW duo, which did 5 damage / turn.

The next round I lost pretty fast to the Godhead of Calamity (GR avatar, 6/6 trample for 5 hybrid) in both games. Even when I replaced it with 6 elf tokens I couldn't win :(

From there it gets a bit blurry, but I ended up going 4-2, so ending 15th of 60 and winning 2 boosters.

Sunday I had to get up early in order to get to Amsterdam, where I was going to be a judge. We had a nice turnout, with 88 people in the tournament.
We didn't encounter a lot of problems during the tournament, apart from the usual questions about the new mechanics.

I saw some pretty awesome plays (29/29 trample, 8 4/4 unblockable creatures in the red zone, etc).

Question of the day was a combination between Kinscaer Harpoonist (when ~ attacks, target creature loses flying until end of turn) and one of those scarecrows (~ has flying as long as you control a blue creature), combined with a blue flash creature.

Yesterday I drafted Shadowmoor for the first time, and really, it's awesome :)
