Shadow Shadow man!

My black deck runs some Engineered Plage. It's a good card because it can hammer the more important critter types (Elf, Cleric, many Goblins...heck, squeeze it in under "Shapeshifter" and make Morphling take a few more turns to torture you to death.)

If you are getting your shadows out en masse, which you should be, I'd put in Dauthi Warlords. (P/T=Shadows/1 for 1B)

I get 2-3 shadows out on the 1st through 4th turns.

Its just that when up against anything fast and stompy like a new age Elf or black deck, I get creamed because:

1) Gets too many of those creatures out real quick and pumps'em with other elves

2) kills off the engine of my deck, death by shadow.

Splash white for Lashknife Barrier and use pestilence to keep the board clear. That will also open up snacky-snacky-yum-yums like Vindicate, and white's premium Face-Smash shadow, Soltari Champion.

Hatred works. Well, only if at any point in your games you actually had more life than the opponent.

Targetted removal via terror, instead of edict to kill pesky pump-elves?

Also Junun Efreet, Uncle Istivan, Sanguine Guard, Fog of Gnats, if you want defense get 4 will-o-the-wisp.

My advice is to just play hatred though.

Black has lots of anit-green cards. Besides the ones above, there's Perish and Deathgrip.

Not much you can do against black. Edicts maybe.

Mutilates, infest, there's a lot you can do...

I'd say run some Caltrops and bad moons in the sideboard...

Quicksand is okay - but it only handles 1 creature - you need to do more... Living death may also be an idea - as it clears the board - in a sense...

Living Death is cute, but only if your critters are dead...

one prob I've got with living death is the fact I've got 1-3 creatures in the yard, while my opponent will have a buttload/nothing out. In that case, I'd need to get my creatures hasted before I'd really risk giving my opponent the advantage of "bringing out their dead" and being able to attack en masse, while I'm sitting with a bunch of shadows eating the fruits of my labor.

Lemme see now, caltrops deal 1 dmg to all attacking creatures, Dauthi Marauder is a 3/1, dauthi horror is a 2/1.

Bad Moons... Meh, I see where you could use it, but only +1/+1, and its just a 1B card... I could use it, if I really wanted to, but I'd really rather throw in a couple more Sinister Strengths instead.

But the mutilate could work....

Land
18x Swamp
1x Cabal Coffers
1x Quicksand

Creatures
4x Fog of Gnats
4x Dauthi Mercenary
4x Dauthi Horror
4x Dauthi Slayer
3x Dauthi Marauder

Spells
1x Oubliette
4x Diabolic Edict
1x Infernal Harvest
4x Dark Ritual
4x Drain Life
3x Unholy Strength
2x Sinister Strength
1x Hatred
1x Mutilate

Sideboard
4x Terror
2x Tsabo's Decree
2x Perish
2x Deathgrip

The bad moons help with the caltrops - your shadows live...

You'd need at least the bad moons to off set just 1 swmp for mutilate...

This focuses on beating them down faster...

Hatred even... though I believe it previously mentioned...

Hmmm..... I'm thinking about splashing in a couple mutilates and Samite Elder to stop it from getting my creatures....

Do you think that would be wise? Even if I threw in the 4 Tainted fields for the color boost?

If that's the case - just run wrath of gods...

How would the elder save your creatures from mutilate - it's not damage...

Nevermind, I just looked it up and found that it doesn't target, so I'll just run a mutilate in there for fun.
