Anyone going to watch this? Anyone remember the original? Anyone think the new one will do justice to the old?

What do you mean "will do?" It's been out. I think the relaunch commercials are because a new season is coming up. I watched a little of the old and it was okay when I saw it was a rerun on SciFi. I watched a bit of the new one, and it SUCKS! With a capitol S U C K S and a million !s (followed by 1s for emphasis).

The blonde robat lady is kind of hot, but she's obviously thrown in there for sex appeal. Who knew robots wanting to kill people would want to be vixens psuedo-sexbots? (Was that part of the original?) The first scene in the series shows such a slutty bot coming in and teasing up a human diplomat before blowing up. Is that how to conduct business? Is that how to utilize sexbots!?!?! Bad writers! Bad!

It is a horrid remake. Like most stuff SciFi makes. Only watched a bit of Earthsea and couldn't help but laughing at how much they rip off both Harry Potter AND Lord of the Rings, and still have this mess of a turd show. At least there wasn't a huge dose of sluttery like most things SciFi does, which was nice for a change. Show still sucked.

Anybody remember the "original fiction" Bradbury-wannabe show a few years back that was like a giant ad for volkswagon beetles? Cop cars, robots...hell EVERY vehicle in the show was a VW Bug. Yeah, I tried to wipe that from my memory, too.

Basic advice--Don't watch Scifi for their original content. Only check it out if your favorite episode of Star Trek is coming on or whatever.

Huh, I didn't know it was out already. I thought it was "upcoming"...

I don't think the sexbots were part of the original :) In fact, from what I remember, the Cylons were blocky robotic things (but I didn't watch all of it, so not sure if they evolved).

I thought I'd give the new show a try if I had the time :)

It is new. The movie that was on was a "special" to see how well it would be received. Whether or not they did a series would depend on that. It did well enough that they are doing a series and the movie was shown on network TV to get people interested.

So, the movie wasn't "new" because it was shown a few months back, but the series is new.

I don't have cable, so I didn't get to see the movie until they just showed it. I thought it was decent. I do agree that they've done a lot of stuff that looks like it's thrown in there to be "sex sells" and I would prefer that they would focus on making it good. But this is Sci Fi and though I never could bear to watch much, I was always surprised by how long Lexx managed to stay on the air.

I think that it has the same problem that all new sci fi shows have - you don't connect to the characters very well. But that happens with time. The first season of TNG had the same problem IMO.

The story line seems to be decently thought out, though I agree that some of the specifics are weak. Time will tell if it's just because the movie's storyline was already reasonably developed from the original series...

Yeah, I finally figured out after watching the promos some more that the movie (or miniseries as they were calling it) was shown last December and they're going to show it again right before the regular series.

I'll probably have to tape the first episode and see how it goes...

I caught the second episode, thought it was interesting. I no nothing about the backstory, but what I saw snagged me. I'd watch it again.
