Scattergories Week 2

I don't know about easy, but yeah, the point stakes are much higher if you can use the internet. I've played previous games of Scattegories here where I didn't use the internet and there is a huge advantage if you do, so I had to join them.

If the intent is to not use the internet, though, we should probably choose another letter for this round (or throw it out). We can wait and see what the points are if people think it's not a big deal.

The points are definately higher this round... but I think a lot of that had more to do with the categories being "easier". There were very few blanks for answers (1 or 2 if I recall).

I hope I never offer the letter "T" again... a lot of word "the", and I need to research some things to see if "The" is part of the answer or something added.

I'm working on new categories - I'll probably post 'em tonight or maybe tomorrow along w/ the results. I liked seeing points scored.

I can see why you don't want to use "T" anymore. Either that or we need to introduce a rule in the future that modifiers such as "the" and "to" don't count. I mean, I can't say much because I used them, too, but wow Ransac, that's some serious abuse :D

One comment - Spidey, you said that you didn't see that using the internet made a difference. As you can see, if your objective is to get multiple points, it can make a huge difference. Assuming all answers stand, I scored 17 this round and Ransac made a killing with 20, 11 of which came from only 2 of the answers.

This question only applies if this round stands: Why did Tila Tequila only count for 1 point?

But yeah, with the help of the internet, abusive answers wasn't hard. "Ty the Tasmanian Tiger?" That's just too easy. And "Tombstone, the town too tough to Die?"

My vote is to encourage the lack of internet usage. I wouldn't mind redoing this round.

I thought that the "actual" rules of Scattergories don't include "the" as a point-scoring word. I'd vote that we restrict it to words that would be capitalized in titles.

I second Rokapokes idea. However, I am wondering why the Tekken did not count as part of my answer? I remember playing the game long ago, and thought that it was part of the title. I did not use the internet to search and still did fairly well, so not sure about the searching vs. no searching.

I score 9 either way, and yes, the advantage of research is pretty obvious. Although, that is a great performance by DF then, although T is the sort of the letter that lends itself to high scores.

Those are the total scores, right? Not just this round?

Why did "Ty the Tasmanian Tiger" net me zero points in the Fictional Character category? If it's because I used one of his games in a previous category, the character name and the game title are two seperate things.

Those are this round scores, not total for both rounds.....

I'd say that Ty was used twice, so you shouldn't get any points for either, but hey if BB wants to give it to you, I'd say one or the other not both......

Why are we arguing about this? Isn't that why it fell apart last time?
I say, "The" never counts, as wouldn't "a", "and", "to", etc.

Those are the totals from this round as Mooseman pointed out.

Ransac - you only get credit once for the character since it was also the name of the video game.

Tekken and Tekken Tag Team... I discounted Tekken from both answers.

"The" is the first word of 3 of the answers which imho would count regardless - because they are an integral part of their title "The Terror", "The Tick", and "The N". Since most people had "the" answers I left them all. The actual rules do not stipulate anything about "the", "to", etc. (They have very loose rules - I looked them up on several sources and it's pretty vague - so I counted them. I can assure you I won't be using "T" again at any rate since it's the worst offender - probably won't use "A" either for the same reason - "A", "An", "And", . . .)

If I run this again - or anyone else does... I would suggest the following major rules change which addresses most issues we have here online... Simply count a unique answer as 1 point, no extra points for extra letters... Or cap it at 2 points per answer which cuts down on the problems and allows for originality.

I never heard the rule that characters listed in titles counted as the same thing, but whatever.

Additionally, DF got 19 points, not 20. :D

Sorry - You can't list the same answer more than once - to me, if it's a subset of another answer it's the same thing...

If we are nixing points for "the" and "to", then you missed one on me. I should only get 2 for "Three to Tango".

Yeah, I have to point out that the "The" in "The N" for Network is part of the name of the network; it's not called "N". Same with "The Tick". I tried to keep my "The"s relevant to the answer.

EB: In response to your earlier statement, I didn't think BB would take those kinds of answers :) I mean, the stuff after Tombstone is pretty much fluff and adjectives - I guarantee IRL I would be questioning that answer :) But if he's taking those kind of answers, it's more my fault for not following along :)

I specifically asked before submitting, but wouldn't have ended up changing my answer anyway. I'm good either way, but if his still giving me 3 points was an oversight rather than intentionally, I just wanted to call it out for consistency.
