Scattegories - Trial round...

If you've never played this game, it's fairly easy...

I give you a letter and each answer has to start with that letter...
This game is different than WWYT in that you want unique answers, not popular ones - which may make it too difficult in this format... Unique answers get a point - popular ones do not. If your answer is a multiple word answer then all words must start with that letter and if that answer is unique you get a point per word. For example if the category was fast food and the letter was F, then French Fries would be worth 2 points if it was unique.

Unlike WWYT, the answers must fit the category, so Freaky Friday would not be an acceptable answer to Fast Food.

The group can vote on an answer at the end if they disagree that one fits the category - I will break ties and make initial rulings on these.

So, for a Trial Run... The Random Letter is: O.

The category is: At the Movies

Director
Movie Title
Movie Actor
Movie Actress
Film Critic
Company (Distribution or Production)
Male Character
Female Character
Setting
Location

NOTE:

Answer as many as you can - I purposefully left some of those rather openended. If you can't come up with answer - it is likely most others can't so it won't matter.

If a name is requested, the Last name must be given (and start with the appropriate letter) the first name does not have to start with the letter but must be given for verification.

Also, I do not actually have the cards, so I am coming up with my own categories. If you have some suggestions for categories I'd love more ideas. I guess they don't all have to be related, but I think it's funner that way...

To play, pm me your answers by next Wednesday - meaning I need them prior to 12:01 am MST on Wed...

This is just a trial run to see how or whether it works... since there's the holidays coming up, I don't really want to run the actual game yet - but if this is a success in my view then I'll use this as the first round... I expect that the game will go to 25 points like WWYT but we'll have to see since that could be a very quick or very long game depending...

And lastly spidey would you sticky this - we can start another thread for questions about the game...

read the note on names... Last name must start with the letter - First names are given as well for clarity but are only worth a bonus point if they also start with the letter. First names starting with the correct letter in conjunction with a last name not starting with the letter are not worth any points...

The only variation on this is people with single names (like Cher, Madonna, Charro, and Prince . . . for example) they would be valid...

On-line Scattergories. That's actually quite a decent idea.

I think the real trouble will be the lack of a timer with this game...

Because people are given a lot of time to come up with answers, I believe the games will be over quickly...

I think that's what I was thinking when I was deciding whether to try Scattergories here (I actually have the game so was going to use the cards).

Well... I'm ready for trial round 2...

tally my points and let's get rolling...

I think I got a lot of unique answers for round 1... but that's just my assumption since I was the only one turning answers in...

:D :p

Sorry, don't play scattergories anymore... sickening how quickly you can lose yourself in that.

Dang it... I could've had a perfect score for the round - all answers unique... now there's a chance that won't happen...

I apologize for the delay - I've been very busy of late... I will get the results done tomorrow as well as give the continuation of the WWYT (to 40 points)...

Darn work anyways...

I got a grand total of 2 responses... Probably because I announced it was only a trial. There were several people who said they were going to answer and likely just got too busy to remember. I also got one answer which I threw out because none of the words started with O.

While I would have loved to see this work, I simply think the game does not translate well... I'll do some tweaking and see if I can come up with something better.

Trains Answer: 11 O words all unique for 11 points.

Director - Brent Owens
Movie Title - Octopussy
Movie Actor - Ozzy Osbourne
Movie Actress - Sandra Day O'Connor
Film Critic - O - magazine
Company (Distribution or Production) - Orion
Male Character - Oedipus
Female Character - Opelia
Setting - Oman(middle East)
Location - Oahu

Spiderman's answer: 5 O words, all unique for 5 points.
Director OLiver Stone
Movie Title Oklahoma
Movie Actor Orlando Bloom
Movie Actress Olivia Newton-John
Film Critic ???
Company (Distribution or Production) ???
Male Character ???
Female Character ???
Setting ???
Location Ohio

So Train wins... :D

BigBlue,

I think the problem is that it is too difficult to think of that many and I just never had time to put a list together. Perhaps if you limited it to 3 answer each round, it would be more manageable.

Also, I had a hard time with the "fist name" rule. The IRL rules allow either first or last name.
