Becuase he was a human, and that fate awaits us all, in time.
2: Did he die from talking too fast?
No. He died from lung cancer.
His story is an inpiring one. A lifelong stutterer, he learned to play the piano in his early teens. Reportedly inspired by singer Ella Fitzgerald's recordings, as well as those of jazz piano greats, he became a professional pianist.
An alcoholic who began drinking almost as early as he began playing the piano, Scatman John's life was troubled, but his scat-singing made him famous in his early 50's (once he sobered up in the 1990's) when it was combined with techno-dance beats.*
After only three albums (the latest being in 1999) his career was brought to a close by his death at age 57.
My pleasure, as always.
*(I still love to freak out to that song, "Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)"
