I went and saw it last night, and...wow. Its extremely well done. the running time for the movie is twenty minutes shy of four hours, but you don't realize it until you check your watch after leaving the theatre. They left out the scouring of the shire, but thats understandable in movie storyline, but other than that it stayed very true to the book. They did switch around the reforging of the shards of Narsil, but I think this way adds more drama to it. The line "become who you were born to be" works so much better in ROTK.

The one scene that I've been looking forward to for quite some time: the battle between Eowyn, Merry, and the Witch King, was pulled off exactly the way it was in the book. I couldn't be more pleased with it.

Perhaps my favorite part of the movie was how Sam was portrayed. I was generally pleased with how Sean Astin played Sam(my favorite character) in the previous movies, but in this one he definetly became the character. I had to literally restrain myself from cheering when he says the line "I cannot carry this burden for you Mr. Frodo, but I can carry you".
All in all a great ending to three wonderfully well done movies. Go see Return of the King, and don't let the running time scare you off, the movie is so engaging it'll seem like an hour.

I saw Return of the King at 12:01 and then later at 5 P.M.

I liked it far more the first time, because the second time I had been up for nearly forty-four hours.

It is without a doubt the best of the three, and was just about everything I had hopped it would be. I suppose I will have to wait for the Extended DVD to come out next year to see if they included the scenes I was hopping for. It was the best seven hours I spent all of yesterday.

Hopefully, this will get film of the year, as the other two were kind of screwed out of it.

And here's me stuck in the middle of Savannah (a town where the historical society won't let anyone build a movie theatre within the city limits) without an available drive machine until after christmas.

Poo.

You're crazy. Plus you misspelled "hoping" as "hopping." Twice. And that's pretty  .

Didnt like the opening to the movie, it was weird and felt out of place.

I wasn’t really impressed with the main battle all that much, Saruman's orcs felt far more menacing than anything delivered here, cept for maybe the over-sized elephant things…

Legolas taking down an over-sized elephant thing, seriously....wtf

The Sauron search light, seriously....wtf

Sam was crazy in this movie, he went rambo on a few orcs, stopped a massive spider, beat the crap outta Gollum, saved Frodo on numerous occassions, what cant he do?

I enjoyed the lack of silly Gimli humor

The Witch King, cripes, they built this dude up, and he was bragging how he was going to break the wizard yatta yatta yatta... and what happens? He got spanked.

Everything about the man/king/psycho in charge of Gondor, seriously....wtf

Well, the one thing that I would probably say is that the movie is better if you know the story a bit. I can see where not knowing the storyline could cause a few things to seem out of place.

The movie was awesome! In my humble opinion

The opening was a bit odd at first, but later on it made sense why it was put in. A bit strange though how suddenly Gollum added "my love" to "my precious" after two movies of never saying it, though.

The battles were cool, though they didn't feel as cool as the one in Two Towers. The 2T one felt more epic, even if it only was 1/20th the size of the main battle in RotK.

The undead army rocked. though! :D

And as a side note...Spidey, I am saddened you have not seen Two Towers yet! Shameful!!! Would you be interested in a free 2T DVD? (honest offer--I'm moving and there's movies in my collection I need to get rid of for packing reasons...and I have a lot of stamps I won't be packing, either. so putting them together seems appropriate if it helps out a deprived moviegoer such as yourself.)

I won't turn down free stuff! :p You still have my address?

My wife and I keep meaning to see it (a friend also has it) but it's hard to find time when you have an infant :)

Yeah:

Peter Parker
19302 Jameson Lane
New York, NY

or something like that...
(actually do have it in the trade PMs, so I can look it up there)

I'm gonna make a post in the trading forum soon enough with more "so cheap they're almost free" goodies. All my Dragon Ball Z tapes got taken by my neighbor already, so NYAH NYAH all you anime fans. :p (I didn't want those damned things anyway...they were stinking up my apartment)

However, if I get psychotic for space, I may just cough up my Hellsing and Cowboy Bebop dvds...but only in total desperation (so don't get yer hopes up, fanboys!) --just writing this to give a head's up it *might* happen...

And to keep this thread on topic:

LIV TYLER IS A TOTAL HOTTIE!!!
*there needs to be a heart smilie*

I watched Fellowship and 2 Towers all in one night....Last sunday....from 5:30pm - 11:30 pm and it was great! so I had to see Return of the King on Monday....I was surprised how packed the Theatre was....Holy Balls!!

I thought the Undead Army was wicked awesome!

Gollum is a little oink.....what the duece did he think he would get away with??

I want one of those Elephants.....Kudos to Legolas on the take-down....which, btw, still only counts as one.

....and to add to Aku's note, didn't The Witch King get aced by a woman....when they said "No man can kill him" I thought they meant race...not sex...crikey

I thought the beginnings of 2 Towers and RotK were unique in that they unlocked an unknown storyline tidbit....They seem out of place, however, it kept me interested...

I agree, and seriously how often can you say that? If I had not read the movies I'd definitely feel a tad bit lost and dissatisfied by certain parts, but knowing the storyline made ROTK an absolutely wonderful movie for me. IMO by far the best of the 3, and I liked the 2nd book the best.

Would you believe I (and my party) missed the opening? We walked in right as it was ending. Oh well. It was kinda fun sitting in the very front row, looking back and forth to see everything on the giant screen.

(BTW, theaters in Tucson beat the hell out of the one (yeah, one) where I came from.)
