Did anyone out there play in the Tempest era?

I just got a whole bucketfull of Tempest Block commons and uncommons from a friend. As a result, I have 3 to 4 of every Sliver in existence except the Queen herself. I'd like to make a decent casual deck using my cards, but I have no idea where to begin. 3 to 5-color Magic was never my forte.

Oh, yes. I do have 4 Heartstones, but I don't know how effective they might be without the Sliver Queen present to abuse them.

This is Type Casual, of course. So, does anyone out there have a decklist or link I can use as a basis? Thanks! ;)

I LOVE SLIVERS!!!!!!!

*Ransac reminisces of the good old tempest days and how he started to actively compete.*

I loved playing slivers. Unfortunately, my deck sucked. I played all five colors, yet didn't have dual lands(I relied on basic, pain, and reflecting pools). I DID have the infamous infinite sliver combo(Sliver Queen, Ashnod's Altar, and Heartstone). In addition, only the best Slivers were in it(Muscle, Winged, Heart, Acidic, Victual, Spined, Horned, etc.) AND, I added some whispers of the muse in, solely because I didn't have any mnemonic slivers.

Good luck on building yours.

If you can, put some Unglued in there, as well.

you say tempest block...i assume you mean the whole rath cycle? cause then you could put in the gold slivers which are just plane awesome. i made a green/white/blue sliver deck that was really fun and actually pretty good. i dont remember the exact deck list but heres something close:

metalic slivs
talon slivs
winged slivs
muscle slivs
crystalline slivs
victual slivs
a couple pneumonic and armored

then for other spells:

humble to take out their creatures after they block or something
rancors to...well yeah rancor
volraths curse to help nullify their creatures
disenchant for emergencies
a few heartsones for the victuals

yeah i think that was about it as for spells and stuff
then i just found a good mix of lands it was something like:
6 forest
4 plains
4 island
then a mixture of 8 of the different pain and tapping lands

yeah hope that helps some tell me what you end up doing...

Well, I don't really have a decklist; the others look fine to me. But I think the top three Slivers are the Crystalline (untargetability), Muscle (pump), and Winged (flying/evasion). So using that as a starting point, you have blue with green and white splashed in. Then you'll have to decide if you want the Acidic, which is nice but definitely makes it 5 colors or other Slivers that might match the "primary" color base of three. Since blue is pretty major, you'd probably want to go counterspells or bounce. And since these Slivers' abilities are "naturally" passed on, you don't have to worry about using Heartstone.

In my area people used to play thawing glaciers, to solve the mana problem, and living death to get slivers back after sacrificing with acidic sliver, or victual sliver.
If you play MP, then maybe add unnatural selection. With the right slivers in play, you can give any creature flying, +1/+1, or make it untargetable :)
About your mana base: gemstone mine sucks. Try full set of cities, and 1 undiscovered paradise, and maybe more painlands.
Maybe I´m wrong...is gemstone mine/harrow working fine?

the ole aluren and slivers. If you have the red one that gives all slivers haste. throw your hand out and attack.

It's good that WoTC is bringing back some old contributions to the MTG bestiary. What did get brought back, however, sucked. Odyssey's Atogs (Except Psych-) and Lhurgoyfs (except the Mortivore) weren't all that great. The slivers, however, should *definitely* be revived in the next block. I will buy at least 4 packs of the set that comes out with new slivers.

Some good sliver ideas:

Mole Sliver UBR
Uncommon
All Slivers are unblockable
1/1

Venom Sliver GRB
Uncommon
All Slivers have "whenever a creature blocks or is blocked by this creature, destroy that creature. It can't be regenerated"
1/1

Armor Sliver 1WUG
All Slivers have +1/+1 for each Sliver in play
1/1

Armor Sliver is crap. Not yours, the actual one.

Those slivers look good, though.

About 2 years ago we tried to make a "sliver set," too...

I used to play a sliver deck that could side out the combo for beatdown variation. Anyway, I can hook you up with a queen, make me an offer or e me a link to your 'haves'.

Thallid, was it really that long ago? Man...

I *love* slivers, the best mechanic, ever. Your decklist looks fine PJ, I wish you good luck on it. If you ever want to mess around with slivers, one of my favorite decktypes was a Black-Red deck sacrificing usless slivers (*cough red slivers cough*) to the acidic, then recycling them in numerous ways. Throw in an ensnaring bridge or two, and it's a pretty good lock.

My deck's working fine. Even without the Queen. Still looking for my 4th Crystalline. I've only 1 Acidic, so making a deck with Infested Terrans still isn't viable. ;)

I'd need one more Ensnaring Bridge, too. Additional painlands or Cities would only really be viable if I had a Queen to make my lifegain with the Victuals more consistent. Those are ideas to remember, though.

And yes, Harrow is a gem in this deck. You'd ideally get rid of your 2-counter Gemstone Mine or City of Brass.
