Regionals results?

So, how did everyone do at regionals?

Me, I was terrible. My deck, which had performed flawlessly for 2 months, just didn't show up on game day. I went 1-3, and dropped.

Maybe I should have stayed in, since we had over 440(!) people registered, and were to play 11(!) rounds.

Kudos to The War Room and their staff, except for the IT nutjob who for some reason believes that the answer to every problem is to yell at someone and tell them how stupid they are. Of course, he does this at every War Room event, so that's nothing new.

The facilities were grossly inadequate, but this wasn't the fault of the organizers, since they planned for 300-350 people (a significant increase over last year's turnout), and got a door-busting crowd that might not have fit anywhere short of the Georga Dome.

It was very hot inside the play area, because some idiot temporarily turned off the AC, and the restrooms were simply overwhelmed at the volume of waste generated.

The snack/drink vendor must have been very happy, because we bought literally everything edible in his kitchen.

All in all, I guess the organizers did the best they could. I have no idea who/what won the tournament, since when I left at 10:00pm there were still 3 more rounds to be played.

Meatgrinders, here I come!

This is weird. The regional I went to had 512 people and was only nine rounds. Yet when I look at other people's regionals, they had more rounds with less people. Anyone know what's up with that?

I played the worst I have ever played before...See, it was all a matter of who was going to play what when we went...Brian was playing R/B land destruction, Eric was playing Fires...So then that left me and Luke, and we could decide whether to play U/W control or U/W rebels...So for the past few weeks I have been playing control...And Luke said he could play whatever, just for me to decide what I wanted to do...

So, maybe this past Tuesday I decided I wasn't fit to play control like I have been for the past few weeks, there was no real reason why I shouldn't, just my own bias of control is not me...So I choose rebels and played it for a few days...

Now on to the tournament, where I so dauthily did shi**ily...

1st match: 0-2
played against B/R discard and my average of land was 2 and once I got 3 mana, but I was dead next turn...

2nd match: 0-2
I talked to this kid beforehand and he said he was so tired and forgive him if he passes out during the game...
Well lets just say I suck *ss and did horrible...When he had 3 creatures out and I had one that doesn't search, I played a crusade...YES I PLAYED A CRUSADE...I'm stupid stupid stupid...I was even thinking of countering my own Crusade but I didn't, I should have though!!...AHHH...

So I dropped with Luke after that, he was mana screwed in both of his matches too, and was upset that shi**y decks and shi**y players beat the Almighty Lukey...

Therefore, I hate Magic and I feel like I am such a shi**y player...I cannot believe how horrible I played...*waaahhhh!!!*...

:)eek: good lord, do you kiss your goldfish with that mouth? -- CT)

According to the Tournament Organiser guides, the number of rounds of swiss needed to differentiate between all players (ie, work out who won), is log to the base 2 of that number.

For the case of Baskil's 512 player tourny, that should be exactly 9 rounds. If it's an awkward number (ie not a power of 2) then reach for your calculator and do ln X / ln 2 where X is said awkward number, which gives 9 rounds in Mr P's case. But the more rounds, the easier it is to see who's one without resorting to tie breakers.

Don't no what modifications can be made if you do a cut to top 8 tho...

Nope. Eleven rounds of Swiss to determine all the invites to Nationals, but no actual top 8 rounds of elimination.

And I forgot to mention, The War Room promised a full box to everyone in the top 32, continuing a tradition of the best prize support around.

Compare this to New Wave, who refused to donate ONE SINGLE PACK of prize support for the Orgg's 18th b'day bash, where we had a Fallen Empires draft.

I didn't do all that great won the first two, and then lost the next three and dropped, but I don't think that's too bad for my second constructed tournament with my first being the night before.

I was playing a R/B deck that used Ghitu Fires and Hecatombs, which nobody expected to see as most of my opponents didn't even realize it was legal, for the kill method if my creatures didn't work out.

I didn't even figure out what my first opponent was playing because it was over too quickly, all I remember was that he had 'Derms, Birds, Cities and Power Sinks. My second opponent played U/W Counter-Rebels which I just smashed through after sideboarding. My first loss came from a very good Fires deck when I found one of my Perishes a turn too late. The second loss came from Nether-Go, I could've won if I had had an Urza's Rage because I had him down to five life when we both stalled out and I had enough to kicker it for the win. My final loss came from a Rising Waters deck and the fact that my creatures came up two turns late.

All in all I enjoyed the experience and am looking forward to doing better the next time I attempt something like that.

I'm thinking about writing up my experience, too. It was a heckuva lot of fun...I hung around The War Room until about 6:45 am, then drove back down to Macon. Well worth it.

It was well worth it, besides me going 1-2 drop. ;) I got to play devil bunny! :D I also got to meet theorgg, Sammy, Mr. P, and Ransac, who I am now very afraid of. I'm going to a JSS this saturday, and I'm thinking of bringing skies.

OK, let me explain.

At the Atlanta Regionals, TheOrgg brought this great game called "Devil Bunny Needs a Ham". Since I washed out early, I just hung with my CPA buds and played Devil Bunny.

Hey Orgg, maybe you can provide more details?

It's made by Cheapass Games, I know that much. I played it a few years ago, and it was pretty enjoyable.

I went 2-2 and dropped not expecting to place high. The one I went too had almost 300 people and we ad to end up playing staggered rounds ( which sucks )

1st game - played R/G land destruction

I started of fast with my mana accelerators but he eventually got a Tangle wire into play to hold me back for a while. I eventually cast Blastoderm and a Flametounge Kavu killing his boa and they went all the way.

game 2 I side in both earthquakes and that has been eagered to get some action after seeing the weenies this guy had in his deck. he went first and casted a L. Elf. I played a City of Brass and played BOP. He then plays a 3rd turn Meekstone ( At this point I'm kickingmyself for not puting in those darn Hull breach that are in my sideboard ) I play a Blastoderm and hit him for 5. I didn't draw anymore creatures and he kept on porting my COB to victory.

game 3 I took out one COB and sided in those hull breaches fearing meekstone would shut my deck down. I went first and wouldn't you know it the only COB I have in the whole deck is in my opening hand. I kept it because I also had 2 Forests. I went first and casted a BOP. He went second and casted a L. Elf. I then casted a Chimeric Idol. He plays a forest and says go. I play the COB ( i haven't draw one land after all these rounds ) then casted the Blastoderm and I say go. plays a port and casts a River boa leaving the Forest untap. well it continues as a stale mate for a couple of rounds until my derm goes away and I'm forced to block with my Idol by tapping every land and taking a point of damge. My oponent got me down to 12 life then he made one crucial mistake. He casted a Tectonic Break for 3 lands. At this point I wanted to jump up and down screaming but I kept my composure. I gladly sacked the COB and a couple of other lands. My next couple of Draws ran into chimeric Idols and the *Blessesed* Turteles took me to victory.

I will tell you guys about my mirror match against fires later I have to go.

I cant belive I dropped with 2 losses ( i need to be kicked )

Went to Regionals in Atlanta. Stayed in til 10th round where I was 6-3, and had to leave the tourny. I had a small chance of gettin top 8, a good chance at top 32, and i had to frickin leave!!. Ah well, i got some tournament experience, and thats what really matters i guess.
I played a Rising Skies type thing, fyi.
