Ranting Me, Part 7: More hate for the heart of the cards.

Well, go ahead. Hate me. I play yu-gi-oh. But let me first say something-I am not sinking one more penny into that hopeless mess of a game. I would like to come back to the thoughts of a very wise man who did a review over the logistics of yugioh. First of all, I would like to say, whoever claims that it hangs alone from the money factor, you're absolutely right! I opened over twenty boosters of a mini-set with forty cards in it, looking for just one card. Not a chance. The Zane Trusdale packs really put a carrot in front of your face, but there were no cyber dragons. I must say, in all of the boosters that I have bought, I have only ever once gotten a card that was playable, and that from dozens of packs from many different sets. And let's face it, when magic has a bunch of crap rares, then yugioh has a handful of GOOD rares! It took me almost forever to build a playable deck.
Have you noticed how in yu-gi-oh, all the champion decks look the same? They all have 3 cyber dragons, two jinzos, and a mirror force. Breaker, magical warrior, appears in almost every deck, and monarchs are almost always there. Find me an era in magic where all top 10 extended decks looked the same. It doesn't exist!
Yeah, yu-gi-oh is a hole in the ****ing ground!!! Take a **** on it, do us all a favor.
Oh, and don't get me started on the rules. If it keeps expanding like this, we can expect to see lawyers specializing in yugioh theory within the next quarter! I think it's pathetic that it's that hard to understand.
But props to the TV series, it really is good. Even with such a flawed idea as base, it really is entertaining.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I do enjoy playing Yu-Gi-Oh! from time to time. I got really lucky in buying packs while starting off (including having picked up two of the often-rumored all-holofoil packs) that I started off with a decent cardpool to begin with.

Yeah, I must admit, the game is fun. I have a crystal beast deck that really is one of my favorite decks, doesn't matter which game. But I'm always wasted by the kids packing jinzos, mirror forces, and three raizas.

I opened one (just one) pack of the Crystal beast set and pulled a ghost-foil Rainbow Dragon (which I then sold on eBay for $40).

I bought a couple of the precons a couple years ago, and a few boosters, then cobbled together a pair of fairly evenly matched decks I could play my kids with. It's kinda fun I guess, though we haven't played it for a few months now...;)

My son has alway been good and pulling rare cards. One pack - Royal Decree. One pack - Envoy of the Beginning...etc.

As for me, I play enough YuGiOh to know that even though a lot of decks pack the same heat, there are also a lot of reasonable answers. Is Raiza limited yet? If not, it will be soon.

The biggest problem we have is that Konami is afraid to put out a good card, so they nerf cards that would be helpful for the environment. Then, every once in a while, they print a bomb like Chaos Emperor Dragon. I could tell you stories. Luckily we got to Dark Creator first :D.

The thing is, all of the good card that aren't impossible to find are banned. Exactly like CED and BLS, the envoys of the beginning and end.

Ever think that maybe it's the other way around? The reason why they aren't impossible to find is because they are banned? Trust me, before they were banned, they were very difficult to find.

Of course, you could just play Snipe Hunter. That's a good card that isn't hard to find. It's just the only good card in the set that it came in.

I would use the hunter if he worked in my deck. I recognize him as a wonderful card.

Tell you what. Tell me what sorts of difficulties you are having competing and I'll use my contacts to see if I can get you a list of good budget answers that you might be able to find.

No, it's cool, I never intended to play yugioh competitively, in contrary to the boys at my school (I tell you what, though, there's this one kid named Kai, he could win a pharaoh tour, and he plagiarized my Crystal Beast deck!).

I've been there. It is always a good feeling to see competative players playing a deck similar (or the same if they copied you) to one you designed.

Yeah, the problem is that he's an annoying little oink, and everyone knows that half his brain is missing...
He wanted me to trade him my three sapphire pegasus cards, but I'm no idiot. I know that everyone is starting to play crystal beast, and that soon, the pegasus will be in jinzo range. Then I'll sell my deck.

I spent around $100 on a booster box and didn't get any high end or useful rares... And that was when it first started up.

So in other words... screw Yu-Gi-Oh!, and get back into Magic/Poke'mon/D&D Minis.

By the way, if you ever hear me say something about the "heart of the cards" when playing magic with me... check my deck... Usually that means I've put more than 4 of somethin' in there... Well, that's the only way they could have done it on the show.

Yeah, you know, it's like a given-every time that the hero is in trouble....
My turn! I draw... Pot of Greed!
And then he draws exactly what he needs to win. It's a sad farce, and there's even a rant somewhere exactly over that in the rants and issues section.

There is a scene in one episode where Jaden is shown to have 2 Mirror Forces. What a cheater...

Well, then again, yugi used black luster soldier, envoy of the beginning, dark hole, rageki, and tons of other banned cards.
I obviously either didn't see that episode yet... is it in the third season, where jayden is the dark lord?

Yes, but those cards weren't always banned. Mirror Force has always been restricted. At least since GX started.

Mirror Gate and Mirror Force are COMPLETELY different cards, though. He uses Gate (which is not restricted).

Remember: the older show had different rules for the game than we do now.
