Welcome to Ranting Me! If you are into the problems of a budget gamer, don't miss it!
First of all, I have an honest question to all the people who play in these legacy tournaments, where there really isn't much of a prize or a point-do you have to take it so seriously? I dunno. Maybe I'm just in the wrong format here, I dunno. But everywhere I look, i see people with decks worth over 1000$! It's pathetic! I have a very limited budget, so that puts me at an incredible disadvantage! It totally gets on my nerves.
One other thing about this that I hate? These people just shove it in my face! For example, I went to a tournament, and got a game loss because my card cases were unacceptable. And I was one attack away from winning! Then I realized, I didn't have the almost 10 dollars necessary to buy new cases! So i got kicked out even after paying five euros to get in! I am sick of losing all the time! And I've got some more anger in store, believe me.

Why play in tournaments? The only reason I can see to enter one is to win (or you are forced to by the TO), so find some players and play casual games.
Play some here, we have many formats, single duels, mindmaster, HAL (our home league where you start with a box of beta bossters), multi-player games, tribal, drafts, all without one penalty....

I get your point. The problem is, I don't have enough friends who play magic, and I am addicted to the game, so...

The game or the cards?
We play with all cards in existence here.
BTW - Your bio says 33, but you say your 13? Which is it?

If you're paying entry fees for tournaments, you gotta read up on all of the rules and make sure your deck is good to go. Having the wrong deck cases sucks, but honestly, it's your fault for not making sure they conform to the tourney rules.

Play in limited formats like drafts to "level" the playing field. Or don't play Vintage until your card pool is better.

Well, in defense to those that have the expensive cards (not that I do, mind you): Some of those players have been playing the game for several years and have collected these high money cards with great effort. If they have the cards, why should they be forced to not play with the cards just because some people are newer to the game and/or haven't put forth the effort to get cards just as powerful.

I fully sympathize with you, though. I remember when I started playing and I could only assemble decks with the commons and uncommons (with few rares) that I had collected, then getting thrashed in tournament. It wasn't until I built a substantial collection a few years after starting that I could eventually trade to build the decks I wanted.

There are a few solutions to this:

1) Suggest to the store that holds the tournaments to hold "Budget Deck" tournaments; i.e.: The decks are not allowed to have cards that are too old or anything that isn't common or uncommon.

2) Feed your need to play Magic here on the CPA. We welcome any that wish to play thread based games!! (unless HOUTS wants to play)

3) Search the Magic websites and forums for tournament level decks with very few expensive cards. I have done well in tournaments building cheap burn/aggro decks before.

4) Kick Spidey in the shins.

Yeah, my collection isn't necessarily bad, it's just that there's no way that a legacy or vintage deck is coming out of that monstrosity. I know what you mean, everyone starts small. Maybe someday, these yavimaya's embraces, Grip of Chaoses and Commandeers will really be worth something.
Okay... As to option one, I really like that option. The problem is, I inherited all of my cards, so what I have is a bunch of old junk. I only ever made one feeble attempt on a standard tournament, and even then, I had to caniballize my deck and trade for a bunch of cards I didn't have right before I gave in my decklist. If it hadn't been for Incinerate in 10th, I wouldn't have even come close to having a chance.
2)How does this work? What stops you from just typing anything there? or taking a hand you pre-programmed? Or using cards that you don't have?
3)I talked about this somewhere else, I don't know where, but I have almost no beatdown staples.
4) I will as soon as I see him the next time. Of course, it's difficult because i'm in southern germany!
But thanks a lot.

We have a little rivalry :D

But as for #2, it's all done on the honor system. We trust you're playing cards and drawing cards normally, not peeking through your deck and stuff.
