Randomness

In search of random dictionaries for my Japenese class, I spied a lonely Onslaught tournament pack box. Two were undisturbed, but the third had seemingly been cast aside...rotated a few degrees counterclockwise. The poor thing had been rejected by someone in a fervor, perhaps, or otherwise cast off as chaff.

So for the first time in, what, a year?, I bought cards, and from it, I judge Onslaught.

Lands.
Being a R/W player, I like nice mountains. And these suck. Sorry, but they look like Portal land rejects. Plains aren't bad, but are nothing special. My favorite is 331, which harkens of ABU. The Islands are ugly, but the swamps and forests are at least hit-and-miss. Disappointing, I was hoping to rotate my terrain crop.

Commons of Note
Matt Wilson = Spiffy Angel Art. I might pick up three more Paci for a quarter some time. Not that I ever play it, but it's better than Grakk or Karn.

Forgotten Cave. (et al I assume, it reeks of cycle)
Do these see any use? I'd think Green ones might be nice, and I even considered grabbing a slab somewhere to toss in my cheap green decks. Hate getting land chocked when I need big angry amnimals.

Imagecrafter.
Shiny foil thingie. Otherwise, seems a bit lame.

Wellwisher.
They remove Llanowar from 8th, then print this. Blah. I never have more than three elves out in my green deck, anyway. That makes Braidwood Cup seem efficient since it can't be Tremored.

Yawn. Moving on.

Daru Encampment.
I might try it out in my duderanch deck. Too bad it doesn't say Knight.

Flooded Strand.
Is it just me or does this say "0, Pay 1 life: Play with 59 cards and an extra {Plateau, Volcanic Island, Tropical Island, Scrubland, etc} of your choice"? It didn't say "basic."

Jareth
A white thing. Too bad my R/W deck is a bit more offensive with Viashinos, Dragons, and Ball Lightning.

Blistering Firecat.
Did I say Ball Lightning?

Okay, this actually ticks me off a bit. Every time I decide to quit, and buy a pack of whatever later on, I always get red and white rares. I think MaRo's setting me up.

Anyway, I like the cat and I don't like the cat. The Morph thing is nice, since my deck doesn't have a mana curve. It has Burn, hole, Viashios, hole, Dragons. And of course, white defence of Swords and Wrath. Cat can block, and have the option of beating the snot out of near any attacker for RR if I play it as an Ogre. Problem is it would be the only morpher in my deck, so the element of surprise isn't really there. That, and I don't know if I have room for another expendable critter. Four balls of joy and the manahungry Viashinos are bad enough as it is.

I'm not all that impressed with the set, but at least a few of the cards aren't total crap, which I found far too much of in the past.

That was boring to read, wasn't it? I'll shut up now.

It's nice to see you back around!

Yet, I still don't know how to say your name...

by the way, since you know some japanese... what's Yatta mean?

Yatta roughly means "I've succeeded." It's a form of Yaru, which is a fun verb! Its most basic meaning is to do something (hence, yatta being to have done something) but beyond that it can mean to give or send something, to play, or even to kill or get laid. (Examples from my spiffy dictionary: "de, dou nan da, kanoja to yatta no ka?" = "And so then, did you make it with her?"; "Koroshte yaru" = "I'll kill you")

As for my handle...
The H is deep, a bit like the german or arabic H. (The name comes from ancient Egyptian) The first T is stressed slightly, and the M blends with the following T. Hence, is has a fast three sylable pattern, Het-em-ti.

But He-tem-ti is okay, too. I.E., it's a pronunciation most people can handle with ease.

(In ancient egyptian, the vowel equivilant to E was never written, so really it translates as H'T'mti. But that looks funny and is even harder to try to say.)

I need to get my major changed to linguistics or something. CompEng is not exactly going well for me. (Calc2 beat me up.)

HTmti - what colors do you play?... I've got plenty of commons/uncommons that may interest you more than what you received in your pack...:)

What do I play? Being tactful and prudent, I won't quote my own post that you overlooked. Scratch that, I will.
Lands.
Being a R/W player, I like nice mountains. And these suck.
Land
4 Plateau
4 Battle'Forge
5 Plains
11 Mountain

Toys
R Wheel of Fortune
R Sol Ring
R Balance

Removal
3 Wrath
4 Swords

Burn
4 Bolt
4 Incinerate
2 Fire (no blue for Ice. I need more duals.)
4 Ball Lightning

Lacerating Lizards
3 Foil Viashino Cutthroat (I collect foil Cutthroats. Well, try to. I'm at 3. Woot.)
3 Two-Headed Dragon

White cards? What the...
2 Tithe, because I like getting my duals in play, since I may well need to Ball on T3 and Wrath on T4.
4 Pegasus Charger, because it's the only white cheap creature that seemed to fit in this stupid deck
-=-

So if it can fit in here, I'm interested. But since I'm still mostly retired (I have two potential players, and one of them I've seen thrice in the past year) so what catches my eye are big things like duals and semi-power rares that are versitle. I've already got 8,000+ commons and uncommons (plus about 160 some junk rares) I'm trying to do away with...not swell the ranks of.

So THIS could be translated to "f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck" for the chorus?

AWESOME!

Nope. Japanese is a contextual language. Unless the sentence structure inticates that the verb (yatta) is targeting two non-inanimate entities, such a meaning is invalid, and can't apply.

A cursory glance at EDICT, an online Jp-En dictionary, brings up anadarikenisuru, which seems to literally translate to "to make a hole filled with mistakes."

I don't know for sure, and I don't know if I want to.

-=-

I went to the cardshop to see about those Blistering Firecats...they want $20 a pop for 'em, and $10 for that land. Guess it can call up duals.

Are those the only 2 colors though... as in you have that one deck or do you play other colors also...

The land can cal up duals... and ebay is a good place for the kittens...

I have a lot of decks. I get bored very fast with any one deck, so keep many at once...currently I have:
RW
RU
WW
B Discard/Shadow
G Fat
G Tokens
UBG...thing that sucks.

But that doesn't mean I have good things I'm willing to trade to get more cardboard rectangles that might get three games in, then be tossed into the closet.

-=-

The reason I proclaim R/W is because my first successful deck was R/W, and while it's changed a whole lot over the years, I've never truely been without it. Every time I've taken it apart, I put it back together the next week. It 0wnz me. :p

CoP? Away foul demon. You defile the true spirit of R/W with your corny enchantment!

Corny Enchantment my foot - That's some madd beats when used properly... Capable of shutting down entire decks... similar to Armageddon...

Exactly. What's the fun in that?

Without conflict, you can't have an engaging story, now can you?

What is the true spirit of R/W?

And hey, if it uses Manabarbs and or Power Surge, it's counts for something... where else have you seen them used (sadly, not too much, even when Manabarbs went to 6th? edition)?

Now that i look at it - Price of Glory could be added to the deck archetype...
