Random Thoughts about 8th Edition.

Heh, I've played R/W all my (Magic) life...of all the cards I bought for it, the the only truly powerful ones I needed were Plateau and Tithe.

As for the duals themselves...they're okay as long as the colors are balanced and properly themed. But they won't be in a base edition because the kiddie rule books are busy preaching G/R decks, and trying to convince them that "enemy colors" work against each other.

I"d have to say that RW has always been my LEAST favorite combination in the game. The ability to wreak great havoc without worry to yourself is just plain mean.

For whatever reason, pestilence decks never bothered me much, but RW are always meaner, and I vowed never to build one, mostly because I don't have the cards or the desire. But they are effective.

Pyroclasms, Infernos and such. What usually drives me nuts is their propensity to put COP:Red in them and my propensity to play Burn. Not a fun Casual matchup.

I tried to ban COP and color hosers in our group, but it doesn't seem to work for me, they use them anyways and claim it is "part of the intrecasy(sp) of their deck".

That sounds like an elephant load to me. Color hosers blow in group play. 1 light of day and 1 of the players has to wait 60+ minutes until the game is done.

BigBlue, don't hate R/W relish it - there are so many ways to build effective R/W decks its crazy, hence its my favorite color combo too.

Regarding 8th, I think Hetemti makes a very good point. Opposing color support kind of goes against everything that WotC preaches in the beginner to advanced play guides.

For the benefit of the constructed community I do think its worth including them. I understand that the Apoc-pains aren't technically supposed to be as good as the original pains, but I also feel that through Saga and Masques block opposing color decks got the shaft - which is a shame b/c we could have lost some good decks during that relatively stale constructed period.

Well that and I'm also a little biased against mono-colored decks.

(looks around)

What happened to the makeover, and commitments to go and drag in new members from other boards?

Sorry, because the people wanted to keep this place with Magic as the primary focus, the forums are going to stay as is.

I don't know what's going on with dragging people from other places here, but I would guess that it would be those aforementioned people's job to do so.

None of that should be stopping people from submitting articles, however (IMO).

I think Ed is reluctant for another makeover since the reactions to the other changes that have been made(a.k.a. Piss and Moan syndrome).

Even without it, I still have a link to the CPA in all of my signatures, and encourage people to put it in their sigs that they use at the end of their articles, wheter here or not...

then again, I've been doing that for a long time.

Buttons are still coming, Expect them in the next three months.

The rest? I don't know the workings of the forum to combine thedeck and single strategy page together, and the rest of the changes wern't exactly concrete with agreement...

I thought that was why we made a Single Card forum to begin with, because card interactions were getting lost in Decks... <shrug>

I've got more important things going on (read: pending promotion at work).

My big gripe with W/R is Pebbles...It's W/R, still legal, still workable, and one of the more boring combo decks out there.
