Quitting Tobacco Products? Too hard?

But I wish I could.

I've tried to quit smoking many times. I got the gum once, it didn't work, I got it again, it didn't work. I think I went four days without a smoke the last time I tried the gum. Not too bad, I guess. Work seems to be a big obstacle for me...as soon as I go back, the stress makes me want to smoke like crazy. Just last weekend, I got those new lozenges. They're even worse than the gum, for me. You're supposed to minimize swallowing when you suck on one, but of course all you wanna do is swallow all that spit that builds up when you put some candy in your mouth. Might work for the dip, though, since you're used to spitting a lot. I went a day without a cigarette, then work rolled around the next day. And let's not even talk about trying to enjoy a few beers without a smoke.

Basically, yeah, it sucks. I think the little stop-smoking aids are going to help me quit eventually, but I know that ultimately, it really is going to take some strong reasons lodged firmly in my mind, and as previously mentioned, a strong will. Good luck.

It would be nice to quit smoking, but what would I do on my brakes at work? All of my friends hang out in the smoking section and I get soooo bored...

The only thing that has ever worked for me has been simply making the decision to quit and then sticking with it.

I would like to say that I'm a successful non-smoker on account of this, but I usually start back up about 6 months to a year after quitting. One day I will quit for good, when I decide it's what I really want to do.

That's the point I'm trying to make. You can use all the aids you like, but until you make the decision and stand firm on it, quitting will be impossible. The aids just make it a little less nerve-wracking.
