Wow!!

I just watched this movie a couple days ago, its amazing. I'm a reasonable fan of anime and manga, so it was pretty cool watching an anime movie.

Do you have any thoughts? Opinions?

Please, no anime bashing :)

I heartily endorse this movie. :)

I would probably be an anime fan if I wanched more of them. So far, I have more fingers than anime movie memories.

Mononoke is my single truly happy anime memory. I have an inherent dislike for all things animated, but Mononoke managed to beat the odds and be absolutely fantastic in every respect. :)

Go DL the soundtrack if you the chance. There are some WONDERFUL peices in there, too.

Anything made by Hiyao Mayazaki is automatically good.

The forest sprites are cool!

I'm not an anime fan, unlike every other friend of mine. Mononoke was the only anime film that I actually somewhat enjoyed watching.

*Turns on theme music*

Man, I want to play cello.... if it weren't so darn expensive... *sigh*

I agree with you Zadok, the soundtrack is groovy.

I have an import soundtrack (which has a better and longer rendition of the lyrical theme song) and the domestic one :D

And I've seen the movie dubbed (twice while it was in a local theatre) and subbed (in anime club)

Me likey. :)

I hate to say that i have yet to see this movie, it didn't appear to be to great, but i'll take you guys word for it and watch it sometime. I am a big anime fan and watch mostly of what i can get my hands on. At the moment I have the full series of the shows: Rurouni Kenshin (Samuri X to you U.S. watchers), Flame of Recca, Berserk, and Weiss Kruez. I have a few episodes of Sorceress Stabber Orphen. I have the first OVA for Rurouni Kenshin, and in movies I have Blood: The last vampire, X, Spriggan, Rurouni Kenshin, and Akira. Any anime fans on the site let me know what shows you watch.

I would also recommend this movie. The depth of the story is amazing. A very good tale well told.

Subbed > Dubbed

The dubbed dialogue loses some of the effect, I think.

i would have looked for the subbed version first anyway because i think anime is much better than way, when its dubbed the voice actors don't try very hard for their characters.

not true, you have to learn what series have good dubs, and which don't, movies are a little more tricky(unless they are a movie of a series).

infamous bad dubs
Escaflowne
Cowboy Bebop
Bubblegum Crisis

Bebop may have bad dubs.. but hey... it's good stuff, anyway.

In some cases, though, I've noticed that it may be distracting to get it subtitled, and here's why:

Sometimes the Japanese voice talents are horrible! (Not to say that American one's aren't) At least for me, there are a few movies I've watched where I've actually had to mute it and then watch it with the subtitles because the voices were so distracting.

And I normally like the Japanese language, too....

I'm not saying Bebop isn't great, it is, but it has been disgraced by the horrible english voice actors.
