Prerelease results

Hod did you guys do at your prereleases? Here, in Toronto, we had 200 people. And I came in 6th!! Boo-yah! My first real tourney! And I didn't exactly get a broken deck either. I had some bombs, but generally bad commons (especially in Invasion). Here's the deck I ended up with:

What can I say? Any game where I saw Yavimaya's Embrace I either won the game, or it won me the game. It's expensive mana cost didn't seem too prohibitive. Lay of Land will have to be the second MVP ( believe it or not). An awesome card. Anavolver was also a beating stick, and Illuminate was damn spiffy. Jilt was the bomb. I won against the best player in Ontario (the province), ended up 6-1, and got a box for my troubles. Oh yeah, someone stole my binder (with all my good rares and uncommons) so I'm quitting non-limited magic. And I'm pissed anyway. Not because I lost all these cards (as a matter of fact I think I was the one least concerned) but because some butthole went through my bag and pulled out my binder. Oh well. It was still a great day. Gary Wise and Sam Lau were there, but I forgot (or didn't think about) getting them to sign my cards. Oh yes... My only loss was to this dude I met (and we became good friends) who had a Spiritmonger (along with Probe, Fact or Fiction, and other brokeness) who ended up 4-2. If only in either game I could draw Yavimaya's Embrace... Spiritmonger is insane when there are no Terminates around. Still, great day no regrets. How was your experience?

...I came in 3rd at my last prerelease and got a lousy 1/4 box...

I won a half-box...pretty good 5-color deck, woulda been undefeated except the severe mana flood in two consecutive games. I swept each other opponent in 2 games. Fervent Charge dominates any stall, Crosis was pretty good, especially the game he came out on turn 4. Degavolver was good, surviving my shocked opponent's Desolation Giant. The Zanam Djinn got the job done. Coalition Honor Guard and Consume Strength were great for me. My opponent's second turn Ravenous Rats once earned me a Dodecapod. Dega Disciple made my creatures trade with stronger ones. Phyrexian Rager did it's thing, as well as Penumbra Bobcat, preventing my opponent's early damage and giving me card advantage.

Main event I played B/G, and it was a pretty good deck, I had a Life/Death and Spiritmonger, and those disciples kick some major booty!!...But I went 1-1-1, and I'm so mad that I had to play my buddy Matt (luckily that was the match that was a draw, I don't think I could handle losing to him, lol)...

So then we went to a booster draft...and we all picked our colors before hand...Woe is me with a W/B deck...I had a bunch of zombies though, and that worked pretty well with those cards that make you look at the top 4 of your deck...But I lost my first match...My buddy Brian won 4 packs, but didn't get anything special...

Sunday we went back up there to play a booster draft...We decided whoever was 4 away from Brian would draft U/R, so that was me, and oh yay was it fun, lol...I splashed some green in there too for big creatures...My deck was honestly so wimpy...I had a bunch of low casting cost creatures, but I did have 2 of those 2/3 regenerating flyers...

So my first match I played Brian and I won 2-1...Luke lost this match, and Eric won his so he went to the semis against the guy Luke played against, but I guess that guy had an unbelievable deck, so Eric lost...

So I'm waiting around for my opponent...Well lets just say their match lasted well over an hour...(and this was the last draft of the day)...So finally I get to play my opp, and she beats me first game...But I hung in there for longer than I should have with that 2/1 Kavu that can again flying, and that 2/1 blue flyer that can pick up Kavu...That was fun, and very dauthi...

2nd game she just didn't have the creatures out there, and I beat her over the head with me 2/3 flyer...After an hour it was 1-1 and the judge came over and said that they needed to close the store, so how about the guy in the finals gets 7 packs and we ladies get 4 packs each..I was fine with that, and I even let her take my DCI pts away from me...

But it was what I got in the packs, one Caves of Koilos and one Desolation Angel!!!!!!!!!!!!...I almost pooped the pants right there...I got four packs and I got 2 cards I needed??...Whoa!...

So after this past weekend I kind of made out like a bandit...I have 3 Caves, 1 Angel, 1 Vindicate, 1 Death Grasp...And Luke has 1 Llannowar Wastes and another one foiled, and a Spiritmonger...Wow, my deck just needs a few more cards here and there, and let me tell you it kicks *ss!...

Oh and I met Duster there too...Very nice guy...And he actually talked to me, whoa!...lol...
