Are you all guys and gals going 5C this Apocalypse Pre-Release... It's virtual next-to-impossible to build a pure 3 or 2 color deck with all the unallied color combinations... And about Last Stand... I think I would be happy if that card got into my hand...

Nah. I'd probably go G/U/R. Allows for one allied-color combo (G/R), two non-allied (G/U, U/R), and burn/fat/countermagic.

I'll probably choose 3 colours...I think 5 is too chancy...And with some creatures, you don't always need that certain kind of mana for one of its abilities, just ignore it...

You serious?

The colors to play are b/u/w or g/r/b Both of these color combos are strong in invasion/planeshift, and both w/b and g/b are strong in apocalypse

My extensive testing (read random sealed pack generation) made me reach the following conclusions:

Almost all were 3 colour decks, occasionally 4. ALL featured green so that i can use invasion fixers such as harrow or nomadic elf to sort out the off colour probs.

I've had a lot of success with green black, splashing either white or blue depending on the pool. G/R/B also worked but less well. Haven't built a good RUW deck yet, nor had any luck with 5 colour builds as the mana falls apart.

Of course, none of this really matters as what you build really does depend on what you open on the day. Can't go in with a plan. I ended up with a 5-colour base white deck for the invasion prerelease, so anything goes...

Um, err...Hey wait, wasn't that my 2nd tournament ever??...lol...no, I don't think I played 5-color then, did I?...That would be really stupid, since there was no multi-coloured friendly cards to play with...Nahh, I wouldn't do something that retarded...lol...

YJ, just a clarification, Luke was the one who played 5 colours...

Anyways, last night I drafted with Luke on appr with Apocalypse cards, and, it was difficult making a deck...I made a 4 coloured one, and it worked kind of well...Hopefully at the PreRe I can get it down to 3 colours...

I hope to get any decent 3-4 color build in sealed deck...in draft I always go 3-5 colors base green. Except when I open something broken as all Hades. B

Splashing a fourth color is worth it if there are three-five good cards, and you have two or more mana fixers. Splash cards should be high-powered, high casting cost(low color dependency). Perfect sealed splash cards would include Ghitu Fire, Breath of Darigaaz, Tsabo's Decree, and a dragon in two of your colors.
