Playing in real life again

Okay I have been going to this card shop every tuesday for the last couple of months. They do drafts on Tuesday. But while you are waiting you get some playing in. This guy said he wanted to play 1.5 so I thought great I haven't played with my older cards in ages. So I bust out my highlander Angel deck(meant for multiplayer, just a tad slow). Well he plays a Chains of Mestopheles- Anvil of Bogarden deck. It only has 1 kill method but it can get it on turn2. Very sick.
Well that was fun:rolleyes: So I figured I would try to build a deck to beat that. Obviously I could put in counters but I thought of something better and I have these Psychic Purge. But then I was trying to think of a deck I could put it in that would be okay against other decks. Tell me what you think

Creatures-16 cheap flyers
4-Flying Men
4-Spindrift Drake
4-Shrieking Drake
4-Cloudskate

Creature Pump-10
4-Unstable Mutations
4-Bonesplitter
2-Sigil of Sleep

Counters-8
4-Force Spike
4-Foil

Other-10
4-Psychic Purge
4-Boomerang
2-Gush

Land
16-Island

For those not familiar with Psychic Purge cc U type Sorcery Oracle text,"Psychic Purge deals 1 damage to target creature or player. When a spell or ability an opponent controls causes you to discard Psychic Purge from your hand, That player loses 5 life."

I'd run Skullclamp because it is good Card Advantage. WTF?

Do you want similiar effects that occur when discarded by an effect controlled by an opponent? Or is Psychic Purge just there for the damage?

Maybe a Capsize for 1 Boomerang. And a Recall to get back some Purges. And Merchant Scroll to get the Purges out of the library...

The only artifact I could think of offhand to go with blue was Sand Golem. Didn't know about Metrognomes :)

Okay I guess I wasn't very clear. I am satisfied that the Purges will do the job on that deck. I am interested in any comments on making the deck better against other 1.5 decks. Thanks for the comments.

On Force of Will I traded all of mine away. I don't want too invest big bucks into a deck that may only get played a couple times anyway. The current people play mostly draft and standard decks. So I won't get a lot of use out of the Will's to invest that much money for them.

Or, since you have an Angel deck, you could do something like use...oh, I dunno, is there anything you can use without having to splash in blue for counters every g**-damned time!?

Disenchant

Plenty of them out there, and their kin.

Why's everyone think only counterspells are the answer to all the game's hitches?

Not everyone thinks that. I don't. But many people do, probably because countermagic is so versatile, or because it stands out so much...

I second Norrytt's suggestion. For all those aware of Sand Golem, take note! Dodecapod from Apocalypse outdates the card permanently.

A lot of blue in there, Train...

Know your enemy?
Know him better than he knows himself...

One must always know their enemy... and his tendencies... and his resources... and his allies...

sounds like I've been reading Sun Tzu again...;)
