It sorta lost my attention when I saw the words "I am a staunch Republican" toward the top as it was loading (slow computer here).
What seems to be going on is that the author and perhaps the people the author is writing about (but like I said, I was turned off by that first line I saw) are, for whatever reason, opting to align with one of the two largest political parties in the country in order to avoid the undoubtedly strenuous task of thinking for themselves...
I've seen quite enough of that to know how prevalent it is...
