One of the dumbest things to see print in recent memory

"However, we gave blue the majority of the threshold helper cards to compensate for leaving it out of a major block mechanic under the theory that this would promote blue as a support color, since we often worry that blue is not getting played enough."

- Ask Wizards, 2/2/03

Read that again.
'We often worry that blue is not getting played enough.'

...yeah.

Guys, does the term "sarcasm" mean anything to you? They knew what the reaction was going to be to that comment. :D

If Blue really stunk, you wouldn't hate it so...

The only thing you have to Fear is Fear itself (or two untapped Islands).

I'm amazed how many people leave you alone if you have 2 untapped islands and a card or two in hand...

honestly... blue stinks...

however... two islands untapped and 1-2 cards in hand means only one thing... Once they're out of that hand I do as I please... so it's a free-for-all cast fest...

That's actually true, so blue is not invulnerable.

However, a good blue player knows what to counter and what not to. And with all that card drawing (or should be), he should be able to get things to get care of what gets through.

Unless of course, the opponent disrupts him. :)

I think blue is a great color.

Blue is a great color... that stinks...

I actually learned like Spidey said... the hard way...

I sat there and burned this guy all game long, and then when he got down to 4 life, he countered everything else that could kill him...

I was a rookie then...

That's why I like cards like hunting grounds... and the can't be countered creatures and spells... and Boil...:D

Of course, those are the things that get countered the second game, once the opponent sees what you're playing :)

I'm of the STRONG opinion that Randy Buehler's admonishment of R&D's green cards are just plain wrong. How many times has he toted Wild Mongrel as a mistake?!

HEL-FREAKING-LO!:
Fact or Fiction (It got restricted in Type 1, come on!!!)
Psychatog
Upheaval

And those are just a few R&D has had since he was in it. Everyone can point to Urza's block for a ton more!

Wild Mongrel is what should be the highest of the common green creature curve. It is not broken, and there ARE NOT entire decks built SOLELY around it. I think Blastoderm and Wild Mongrel and Basking Rootwalla are godsends to the casual player and to the elevation of green as a legitimate color in tournament play.

Still cannot figure out why they would make Vizzerdrix and Trained Orgg... What were they smoking when they thought that they could make Mons, Vizz, Trained Orgg, and Goblin Hero all rare! idiots.

Same reason they keep reprinting the lucky charms.
"For the beginner player."

Us: "But we don't want them!"
Them: "So don't buy the set if you're not a beginner."

I'd love to see what WotC would do if only beginners actually bought the basic set.

I don't buy the basic set... although I can see someone who'd not a beginner buy some if they missed out on some of the sets that were reprinted in the basic set at the time.

When Sixth Edition was released I was still buying cards. I bough two boosters and got a Goblin Warrens in one of them - and it was the RARE! A Fallen Empires card was a rare??? I decided to stick w/ just buying the "Expert Set" cards.

"...and the little gold VI frightened me..."
What frightened me was that they called it "Classic"!!!...

This was a new set!!!...

I think they were on some serious Coat at the time...

Well, if Goblin Warrens was considered a U1, that was pretty much a "rare" when they were doing U3, C5, C3, etc...

what was weird was when they no longer made artifacts common, so if you got "lucky" charms before as commons (as an example), you got them as uncommons. That was a bit of a waste of a slot...

But at least they stopped putting land in the boosters at 4th :)

It's kind of odd... but just like in real life - land is a valuable commodity...

It's kind of weird to have a sealed deck tourney with 3 boosters, and then everyone fight for what little land the shop has...

But alas, the next day the shipment from WOTC comes in and the shop owner can replenish all the land they just lost...
