Old (somewhat funny) article I stumbled on

back in '04 this guy made a list of the 100 worst cards... with descriptions and ways to fix them even...

http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/article/6699.html

I think along with our list of "hall of fame" cards... we could create a "hall o' shame". (Or perhaps a "Hall o' Seamus" for any of our gaelic readers).

Just for fun mind you...

Then of course, we'd have to challenge each other to find uses for them... You know, sorta like everybody's favorite card... Dwarven Pony...

I don't know if we need a committee or not... I'd like to do them by vote after a nomination period. I personally think the worst cards shouldn't include too many commons - I mean, commons were intended to be weaker than their rare counterparts...

Oh, and speaking of the Hall of Fame... when should we add the cards from the sets after future sight?

I think we add them a year after their release.

I am thoroughly appalled that Dwarven Pony in on this list (#55). Come ON, Ben!!! This card has been dominating ALL FORMATS ever since it was printed!!!! IT GIVES DWARVES MOUNTAINWALK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .......sigh..... and this guy writes for magicthegathering.com?

I remember that article and talking about all of the problems with it. Of course there's always going to be some debate about the worst card ever, but my vote then and probably now goes to Wood Elemental, which for some reason is only #11. It's certainly much, much worse than Pale Moon. Pale Moon does essentially nothing except in odd situations. It could screw over certain decks that are actually good. The problem with it is that it's too situational, like plenty of other bad cards. Nothing about Pale Moon that makes it stand out at worse than Mudhole.

Sorrow's Path is arguably worse because it's highly situational and actually hurts you rather than doing nothing. But Wood Elemental is different. You don't have to tap it to hurt you. Playing it hurts you. You get to choose how much it hurts you, but it always hurts you and in order to give you something that tons of cards, even some pretty bad ones, could do worlds better.
