anybody with an idea for a GBW deck for OBC please help here:

The idea is to use the riftstone portals and turn the monoblack into a 3-color...

Even casting vengeful dreams with only 2 swamps in play is nice trick... just discard the portal...

any ideas...

here's what I have so far...

3xAnurid Brushhopper
3xNantuko Shade
3xCommander Esha
3xFaceless butcher
2xMindslicer
2xIridescent Angel
2xGenesis
1xAncestor's Chosen

3xMutilate
2xKirtar's Wrath
2x(W-disenchant, G flashback)
3xBuried alive
3xHunting Grounds
2xBattle Screech
2xRat's feast
1xMorningtide

4-Riftstone Portal
1-Tainted Field
1-Tainted Wood
1-Tarnished Citadel
16 Swamps

how are you discarding the portals? You need some black symbiotes but they really suck.

a casual players observation....

If an opponent is running main deck Rancid Earths you could be
caught with several cards you can not cast.

Its a pretty interesting idea but Rancid Earth would probably
give you fits. Almost all of the OBC black based deck that I've
seen run anywhere from three to four main deck. Maybe if
you just ran a few Green and White sideboard cards and used
the portals to cast them it might work a little better.

and of course you could probably use a few madness enablers,
as rkoelsch pointed out.

According to the Judgement FAQ and the way the casting of a spell works... There are costs to cast, and casting costs...

If I have 2 swamps in play, and a vengeful dreams and a riftstone portal in hand, I can state that I am playing the spell, and pay all costs to cast the spell, such as discarding cards for the dreams... Then I can tap the lands for mana...

Since the riftstone portal is now in the graveyard, I can tap my 2 swamps for 2 white mana...

Thus a player playing rancid earth could kill all the swamps they want, as long as my riftstones are in the graveyard, they aren't going anywhere, so all my lands produce black, green, and white.

Believe it or not - ground seal would be perfect, that way the portals could not be removed from the graveyard. Only morningtide would remove them.

That's the idea - manipulate the rules to run an extremely strong 3-color.

Actually, that works because you can pay costs in any order. I'll bet it doesn't work online, though :D

But, I don't see any Vengeful Dreams in your decklist.

I think it might work on line because one of the options you can chose is to be allowed to annouce spells then pay for them. I will have to try that. of course that would require me getting both a dream and a portal.

You still need better discarders (symbiotes? I like that one rkoelsch, hope you don't mind if I use it). For OBC Black I like Last Rites and Grotesque Hybrid.

Also, I don't think I'd count Riftstone Portal to your mana count. It might be a land, but you'll rarely ever put 1 in play - its really an incarnation, thus leaving you only 20 mana sources.

I'm supposed to have 3 vengeful dreams in there, more than likely for the butchers, I'm currently stalled waiting for a further ruling on Mutilate...

Feel free Mikeymike, it isn't mine I found it somewhere. I agree that the mana needs to be upped on this. I really think you are trying to do too many things. This would preform better if it was more focused.

If the ruling on mutilate doesn't turnover somehow, and I doubt it will, I'll be able to focus the deck more...

I need to develop a better understanding of the rules!

Needless to say, I now understand your deck a little better.

What's the ruling question on Mutilate?

You still need to find a better way to get Riftstone Portal in the graveyard.
Vengeful Dreams - Great card, but if you opponent decides not to attack you you are discarding.
Brushhopper - Since you need the Portal in the yard to cast him you can't count on him.
Mindslicer - you need someone to kill him in order to discard or kill him yourself, and there are so many cards in here that you don't want to discard I'd be afraid of him.

I like what you are trying to do with the Portals and the Hunting Grounds, but I agree with the general consensus that this deck needs more focus and more G/W sources.

I e-mailed Elaine Chase and was asking for a review of the rule - it was 418.3b - I'll be focusing a little more on the GW mana compensation, but I do believe this could be a strong color combination.

The 3 strongest colors for this whole block, all in one deck...

Thanks for the input guys...

Entomb will throw a Riftstone Portal in the 'yard.

You could play a deck that looks like MonoBlack Beatdown but have Entomb tricks.

4 Entomb
4 Chainer's Edict
1 Genesis
1 Glory
1 Coffin Purge
2 Rifstone Portal

And then load up on beatdown creatures like Nantuko Shades, Shambling Swarms, Faceless Butchers, and maybe Braids. You still need another way to discard such as Sickening Dreams, Last Rites, Grotesque Hybrid, and such.

Entomb is a good idea, I found some of those in my piles last night, so I'll probably use them...
