Not too rare MBC deck ideas

After seeing the power of including lots of rares in a deck, I've decided to tone it down for casual play (with my 11-yr old son). MBC is a nice, slow format permitting lots of creature battles and some fun tricks.
I wanted to keep that theme alive in a few decks designed to cause some interaction (nice to be able to get my son to sit down and talk/play for an hour over a few games).

Lumbering Satyr

OK, if he chooses to include a moment of silence I could be in real trouble with this one, but since he won't (fog patch is his favorite):

4 Lumbering Satyr
4 Skyshroud Ridgeback
4 Blastoderm
4 Stampede Drivers
4 Vine Trellis/Rushwood Dryad
4 Silverglade Elemental

4 Tranquility
4 Spidersilk Armor
4 Invigorate
4 Skyshroud Claim

20 Forest

Rares: Deepwood Elder (or Mystic compass in T2), Natural Affinity/Vitalize (mass attack).

Blue/Green Variant

4 Stampede Drivers
4 Rushwood Dryad
4 Vine Trellis
4 Blastoderm
4 Silverglade Elemental
2 Stronghold Machinist
2 Stronghold Biologist

4 Counterspell
4 Invigorate
4 Skyshroud Claim

12 Forest
12 Island

That's the general idea. How should I make the decks better without adding more than two rares? Thanks.

i'm working on a MBC deck that's mono blue bounce. Here are the key cards- cowardice, jolting merfolk, cloudskate, stinging barriar

Play cowardice, play the merfolk, then bouce 3 creatures back to their hand with the merfolk, then bouce back the merfolk. The barriar also adds some bounce. When your oppo is left creatureless play cloudskate. Attack with it, and before it dies bouce it back. repeat, and win.

Inclue some counterspells-daze, thwart, counterspell, etc. to slow them down at the beginning. Add some card advantage- acc. knowledge, brain storm, soothsaying, to look for the key cards. Parallax tide also slows them down, so i might include that.

There's only 2 rares in this deck-cowardice and the tide. LMK what you think.

In the straight Green deck, i would drop 2 Tranquility and 2 Skyshroud Claim for 4 Deepwood Wolverine, and drop 2 Elementals or the rares for 2 more Forests. In the U/G, I would suggest dropping all 4 Invigorate and 2 Skyshroud Claim for 4 Waterfront Bouncers and 2 Stinging Barrier. In addition, I would go with 14 Island and 10 Forest so you can use the Counterspells and counterspell creatures right away. With the Vine Trellises and Skyshroud Claims, you shouldn't have a problem getting GG to cast your Blastoderms.

If you want other cheap MBC decks, here are some thoughts:

Blue time advantage

4 Trickster mage
4 Cloud Sprite
4 Waterfront Bouncer
4 Cloudskate
4 Rishidan Airship
4 Drake Hatchling
2 Stinging Barrier
4 Daze/Accumulated Knowledge
4 Counterspell
2 Thwart
4 Coastal Piracy
20 Island

Red Control

4 Kris Mage
4 Arc Mage
4 Flowstone Wall
4 Shock Troops
4 Laccolith Warrior/ Flowstone Crusher
2 Flowstone Thopter
4 Seal of Fire
4 Lunge
4 Thunderclap
2 Flowstone Slide/Flowstone Overseer/
Warmonger
24 Mountian

Black Mecenaries

4 Rampart Crawler
2 Molting Harpy
4 Caterean Persuader
4 Spineless Thug
4 Caterean Intimidator
1 Caterean Brute
1 Highway Robbers
2 Caterean Enforcer
1 Caterean Summons
4 Dark Ritual
2 Haunted Crossroads
3 Vendetta
4 Snuff Out
4 Vicious Hunger
20 Swamp

Good luck and have fun,
Erik

I would be wary of thinking 'Rare=Powerful'.
Rare generally means 'Narrow', and you can build some really wacky decks around rare cards, when commons and uncommons are generally pretty samey the rares can produce all sorts of wierd effects.

This was an official announcement by the Worldwide Rares Protection Agency

I have my own version of green anti-green.

Creatures
4 river boa
4 skyshroud ridgback
2 albino trolls
4 stampede drivers
4 lanowar elf
1 Dawnstrider

Spells
4 fogs
4 briar patch
4 revive
4 seal of strength
3 spidersilk armor
4 giant growth
2 hurricane

Land
4 treetop village
1 gaea's cradle
11 forests

You fog when you need it, to stop the pumped-up swarm. Send out your fast small ones. Briar patch stops there little ones, and even the medium ones.
