You don't have to be a cleric... honestly - play whatever you'd like to play most...:D

But I've pretty much played them all, so it's no real problem for me either way...;)

man, I love clerics. I never go straight healer though. I'm playing a Mystic in a dragonlance campaign right now (Mystics are like the sorcerer equivalent of a cleric) and hes specializing in summoning necromancy. All the other PCs have to convince me to heal them...its great.

On the Dragonlance bit - I'm a big fan of the chronicles and all the stories stemming from them... especially the Majere brothers...:D

the way Raistlin becomes Fistandantilus is just cool...

So, whatever fine establishment of drink we end up meeting at... :D

When you go in you see a man in his mid to late 20's sitting at the bar. His maroon robe has seen better days, though it looks like he tries to make himself somewhat presentable - if not wealthy enough to afford new garb. He's got a large mug of ale in front of him and he's talking to what looks like the town drunk - who is in completely tattered clothing - and doesn't appear to care one bit about his appearance - or his . . . stench...

The younger man turns to look at the new people - while the older man ignores them and goes back to his firewater.

across from the man in the maroon robes. you see another young man, his sandy hair neatly cropped into the style of the time. he has a day's worth of stubble covering his face, but is more or less clean shaven. He wears shining armor, and has an equally well kept sword hanging at his hip. He seems to be flirting with a young tavern wench, he has an air of superiority, but seems nonetheless friendly.

I'm sure we're not ready to start yet...lol

For when we do though, please make sure you disable your sigs. The threads get really long as it is, and with sigs they'd get absolutely HUGE...

Hey, that's cool... actually, I'm going to be off work from 12/17 and be back 12/27, so we'll start up during that week. So feel free to introduce yourselves and role-play :)

Update: we have a fighter, thief, magic-user, elf, and 2 clerics... kinda wish I was playing to fill the dwarf slot :)

Spidey... I know you know what's going on and all... but rock on with a dwarf....

another fighter is always helpful... and most dwarves can't figure out the puzzles anyways.... ( :D ) So it won't be a stretch if you play dumb... ( :D )

OK...

"Phineas, look at the young knight in his shiny armor... Shall we buy him a strong drink and test his mettle?" Says the young man to the wizened drunk...

"Bartender, a tankard of ale for the man in the shiny pants."

Walking into the bar, a young man enters, and sits at the table closest to the doors. He is wearing a black tabbard that doesn't quite cover the obvious chain armor, and has a shield that he slings down by his chair. A Holy Symbol lies around his neck, fashioned out of what appears to be some type of antler. A rather bulky and battered mace swings from his sash. He does not speak, but motions for service. He speaks so low that, if you crane to hear it, sounds like a whisper that cannot quite be made out. Slinging his pack to the ground, he pats the barmaids arse and awaits his order!

In the darkest corner of the tavern sits a young man minding his own and taking sips from his stein in a relaxed but watchful motion...

your attention is pulled away from this character as commotion stirs... one of the barkeeps has fallen asleep and one of the maids is yelling and clamoring to wake him...

*******
Spidey -
you could make him a character interested enough to see if we can survive in the wild... and he'll "join" battles if he thinks we're in over our heads...

we'd basically be there to amuse the dwarf...;)

2 clerics, eh? Ummm...I think I'll switch over to dwarf, if that's the case, and spare you the NPC complication. Clerical backup is nice, but I really think we could use a bit more beef here, and, as I said, I really have no specific preferences (though I'd rather not be a hobbit...;) )

The Tentacled One
A man in garish clothing sits at a table playing cards against the local gamblers. He is having a rough time of it, but his luck seems to improve dramatically when the deck is switched to his own personal cards...

The young man in the shining armor, grabs the mug of ale and saunters over to the man in the maroon robes.

"Well Met! my good fellows!" he announces rather boisterously. He smiles, a genuine grin, and extends his hand. "Names Devin, Devin A'Daire" his smile seems to broaden at the mention of his own name. "Might I have the names of those so gracious as to purchase a drink for a scoundrel like me" With this he downs the mug in a single gulp.

"Well met Devin A'Daire. My friend here is Phineas, he's not from around here, but he's been here as long as anyone can recall. Me, I'm Patrick. My family was too poor to afford a last name, so I go simply by Patrick."

"You have quite the knack for ale, perhaps something more stout would last longer in your mug," Phineas says. Phineas downs the rest of his glass of the hard stuff, wipes his mouth, and looks rather woozy... "Patrick, I think it's time for a nap." And with that he stumbles off his stool, and wobbles his way out the door.

"Poor old Phineas... he tries to drink his memory away. But alas, that is a tale for another time. What brings you to our town and tavern?"

"What Else! Adventure! that is why i'm traveling." He sets his mug down and calls the barkeep to refill it. " I'd like to have a few tales to tell before I settle down. Why I had to sneak out of my mother's estate like some rogue, else she would've married me off to that village girl." He looks off a bit, smiles, then turns back to the conversation "...She was pretty comely, but sometimes a man's got to do what a man's go to do...y'know?"

Okay, I'm back.

So now we have a fighter, thief, magic-user, elf, cleric, and a dwarf. Like a dummy, I forgot the module today and I'll be off tomorrow anyway, so we'll start Wednesday.

Thinking ahead, if someone's unable to get on for a couple of days, should I just play the character the best of my ability as the situation warrants until the owner comes back? I'm thinking like in combat, he'll keep swinging or retreating if badly hurt, just mosey with the party while exploring, etc.

that's fine with me.... I'm thinking that I'll have my one spell for now (and if I recall that time period - only get to cast it once a day too)... :) So, after that it'll be some form of thrown daggers (or darts?)...

ahh the life of the not so powerful mage... :)
