I think these are the names of the other cycles:

"Rath Cycle" Tempest Block
"Artifact Cycle" Urza Block
"Masquerade Cycle" MM Block
"Siege Cycle" Invasion Block

I always thought Ice Age played in Jamuraa? shouldn't it be in the "Jamuraa Cycle"?

Ice Age and Alliances took place on the "main" continent in Dominaria. I gots the rule book that says so ;)

Those first two are total crap.

When the sets came out, there WERE no "cycles."

Weatherlight started the "Rath Cycle" when it was relesed.

The rest were either completly stand alone or sequals to a stand along (Alliances/Visions)

Seige cycle was what I made up for the Rosewater interview, and I guess it stuck...

I always called them blocks. Didn't know those first two were really NAMED, though!

Hrmm. I'm the resident self-appointed storyline guru here, and I must say that I too am at a loss for those first two.

[Edit - Added in right after]

Hang on, that can't be right! Homelands takes place in Ulgrotha, not Terisiare!

Now thinking about it, I gotta go with Duel. The first two are more "blocks" (Mirage and Ice Age); Rath is pretty much the only cycle (maybe officially named? Did someone just give their own cycle names to the others?)

Where'd you learn these, Griffy and Lotus Mox?

Hmm... I wonder if those are "official" designations or just ones someone made up for convenience of the database. Because along with someone else who posted before, Weatherlight really doesn't have anything to due with Mirage; it's new characters and setting. I'm thinking someone who doesn't know the storyline messed up here.

Maybe someone with time on their hands should contact the maintainer of that page :)

From what I remember, WotC came up with the idea of "blocks", or "cycles" sometime during the Mirage era, and it was their way of finalizing the setup of T2. By setting everything up in blocks it made it easy to understand what would be cycling out of T2, and, more importantly, when.

Before that the T2 card pool was defined exclusively by DCI declaration.

T2 had been advertised originally as consisting of only the latest version of the Basic set and the 2 most recent expansions, but more than once they changed their minds and extended it to include Fallen Empires, IMO for 2 reasons; Necro players would have whined about losing their Hymns, and WotC had LOTS of leftover Fallens due to a huge print run and a mediocre card set.

It's actually a good thing that they did though, because in the end it made it so that at any given time at least 4 expansions are available for T2 play (and the cards are eligible longer).

Those names Griffy found? I've heard them before and thought they were inaccurate, but it's possible they were a couple of the names WotC threw out there to try and round things out. I mostly remember the Ice Age thing being called ALICE (Ice Age/Alliances) and the Mirage thing called MirViLite (Mirage/Visions/Weatherlite).

Homelands was a throw-in to the Ice Age block once they decided that each block should have 3 sets, but that idea was an afterthought. You're right - the Rath Cycle was the first block of 3 sets of cards that all had a common storyline associated with them.

Oh, and I like how Orgg named the Seige cycle. That's cool!

I believe these are the names that will given to the books that will be written. WOTC has plans for books on the older expansions and they need 'cool' names for them.
BTW Invasion block is simply "Invasion Cycle" There also will be a Legend cycle.

Blocks are the card sets and cycles are the book sets/trilogies.

A LEGENDS cycle?

I forgot what they called the LG/DR/FE block they allowed, with basic land, to be played in the block party format... noone used it, because it pretty much is weaker than the others, but it was avaible.

:{ )

I nicknamed the Invasion block! Woo-hooo! Severed Edition, Eat you HEART out!
