This is basically a neoFires deck, that was allready talked about on Magicthegathering. This is the poor mans version. What does everyone think? Is it possible to win with this klunker?

You need another way to get Anger into your graveyard.

Book Burning (sets up threshold, could put Anger into GY
Barbarian Bully (aggressive, but the discard is random)
Narcissim (hmm, not a bad idea - its aggressive and very discard friendly)

I'd probably cut the 4 Penumbra Bobcat for 3 Barbarian Bully and 2 Fiery Temper for 3 Narcissicm.

I like my build a little bit better...if you're going to discard randomly, might as well get a 3/3 for 1R out of the deal. Ernie really has no drawback that's worse than the benefit you get from him, and Yavimaya Barbarian has the added benefit of prot. blue, and you know NONE of the big decks use blue...and finally, 2 Karplusan Forests reduces the chance of drawing a two-land hand that you can't use because it's filled with filter lands.

You know, it occurs to me that Anger is inferior to Fires. It needs to be in your graveyard, and is vulnerable to graveyard removal, whereas Fires is an enchantment (which some decks have trouble with these days).

Well, the idea is that neoFires could be even faster than Fires. But, thats assuming you draw Wild Mongrel and Anger in the same hand. Mikeymike, your right, another way to get Anger in the graveyard is needed. Narcissim is a good idea...Istanbul raises a good idea, which is subsitute some of the Anger with the old fires. I dont quite agree with the Explorer call, because one of the main reasons of using the Bully is that you can activate it numerous times....espically later in the game, if all you have is an Anger in your hand.

I dont know...I still have to mull this whole idea over. Any other comments?

I don't understand one bit how anybody could think Anger could replace Fires. There's just no way. A Mongrel engine is nice, yes, but it has nothing to do with Fires. The Fires deck is build to spend the first two turns (possible three) pumping out the mana and Fires, and then just beating down the opponent from then on. Putting a Mongrel on the field just slows it all down.

Anybody ever played original Fires would know what I mean. Fires is around... Birds and Elves are here. Blastoderm is replaced by Phantom Centaur. The two things lost are Saproling Burst and Rishadan Port. Those are some huge hits, but can be made up for at the cost of never having a mega power card drawn (as Port and Burst did).

Plus, Fires itself could be used to give +2/+2. Sure, that was rarely used, but there were occassions. Anger does nothing, and just created problems, like having to put that stupid mutt into the deck. Mongrel is good, yes, but not Fires-usable.

It almost looks like what you're wanting to do is mix the speed of Fires and the abilities of a Madness deck. That isn't a workable combo. Powerful, but not strong enough to win a T2 event.

I'm hoping I'm not sounding like a rant here. I think your idea is cool. But what you're doing isn't "Fires" or even "NeoFires" its just some hasting madness build. A full fledged rogue deck. Kudos for trying it, but it aint no Fires.
