My two months in hell

For a while, I was posting in another forum as well as this one - I feel kinda' bad because I was dividing my attention, but I digress.

It was a forum based around one of my favourite video game series and they had some pretty cool threads about all the games from the series. Because the games are internationaly successful there is a good mix of people from all over the globe there.

The forum looked a lot like here, except anyone could have an avatar and their own banner in their signatures...I'll get back to this later.

But, what kept me coming back was their "serious" discussions. Lots of people discussing religion, politics, and basic problems about life. Some of the topics were pretty good, but after a while I started to notice that most of the people posting prefered arguing w/ each other than actually discussing their views...I mean we've been known to do this here, but usually we come to an understanding and everyone learns something from it. There, it was just an all-out brawl.

Another thing that annoyed me was that since most of the posters were not from the US anyone that was was automaticaly hated by the rest of the world. We're the reasons for the wars, the poverty, and the total unrest in the world. That got old fast.

The avatars were pretty (I chose not to get one), but the banners were ridiculous. Most of them were larger than the actual posts I was reading....

...so, after being in a few wars of words I decided to look up some of the profiles of the people that were posting and I came to find out that 90% of the users were CHILDREN. I'm talking 17 and under. Now, I have nothing against kids giving their opinions, but when they start acting like second graders in the school yard I figure that this was getting too silly (I forgot that the forum is based around video games:) ).

The final straw came in a religious debate. The fundamentalist Xtians were trying to convert the atheists and the atheists were trying to destroy the belief structures of the Xtians. I decided to take on the voice of reason and post "Why bother? There is no real way to know the outcome until you're dead". The only reply I got from someone was "If you think it's such a useless argument then why are you postin?" I took that as a cue to stop posting altogether.

So, what did I learn?

No matter what country people post from, you can always find close-minded, immature, idiots.

Just because your avatar and banners are pretty, it doesn't mean you know how to post.

Most kids that play Final Fantasy between the ages of 15-19 think they know everything...

Well, it is kind of interesting to know that younger pups are doing more than drinking/smoking/Egging houses etc. and discussing topics that require some form of thought…

With my friends I actually like bickering and arguing… we help define each other through discussing our disagreements…

However if most these arguments ended up in mud slinging, shame on them. However I am sure we all have put people down sometimes in our life...I like to let off steam on the net...sometimes I act like a miserable oink...

Additionally...Forum banners suck

*cough*

um, yeah

anyway... it's hard to get good discussions online. people love to think they're smarter/better/whatever than anyone else, whether they're 17 or 27 or 57. it's easy to argue when you can think of your arguement and type it out and not talk to someone face to face. i like debates with people in person. it's so much more interesting, and you have to think on your feet. if you're debating with friends, you can't mud-sling too much because you'll loose them.

Ah, the youthful passion to influence, exploit, and overpower...how refreshing. Quite frankly, I am all for mud-slinging and bad-manner than the illusion of "good people" and "getting along." I am in favor of dogmatism and dogmatizing, powering and overpowering, offending, in opposition to "we are all friends." Because we are not all friends, and some of us do not belong here (in this life, I mean), and with all honesty, some have not earned the right to exist, the simple right to life.

I give you the CPA as an example, and its most dominant forum: the off-topic. What do we precisely make of this forum other than the bad manner, bad taste, excuse, and "I'm bored" of some unspeakable tragedy that had managed to access the world wide web? What is the off-topic area other than the cafe for the degenerates? Bad jokes, bad spirit, lack of sense, lack of style - is this not precisly the off-topic, in its naked form?

With all honesty, how many useless, needless, altogether superfluous threads have we seen originate here! And how many superfluous fellows are behind them, perhaps that is the real case here. What would the off-topic be if not for the occasional insightful, occasional mature and profound discussion concerning the ways of life (and by "mature and profound" I do not mean lacking in humour, just to forewarn innocent ears)? The off-topic, minus few glorious threads, equals a garbage lot, and with it the entire CPA. Bickering, hatred amongst members, despising, disagreeing, insulting - those mark the heights and the higher spirit of the entire CPA. And the "intellectual" side of that "war" is the height of not just the off-topic, or the CPA, but I assure, it is the meaning behind all of life.

Let us be glad that younger kids are impassioned! - lest they decay and become something that resembles...many members of this CPA, and many members of life in general, who, at the end, cower to their logic of "agree to disagree" so as to put an end to the nonsense that they utter so readily. Nonsense it is, without a doubt - anything that makes sense will attempt to make use of all its power, its strength, its means, all ways possible to exploit and prove wrong, win-over, and convert the opposing side, or at least have the high spirit to confess that one is wrong, that one is below and beneath the opposition, that one is downright unworthy...but instead we have "agree to disagree," or, in my terms: I have lost, I am wrong, but my subhuman pride and ambition refuses to come in terms with itself, therefore, let us "agree to disagree."

Immaturity is far more refreshing than observing a grown man lie at rest in his decadence...and too many such peoples have I seen lose themselves, not in themselves, but in a foolish contentment of the material world, of the "pleasure" and "happy" and "happy wanting" side of the world, in the "facts" and "science" of the world. Facts! Science! The day is coming when those, too, will falter...and these people will be free-floating in a nothingness that devours, and grins. Facts! Yes - "facts" - or a one-sided, very one-sided prejudice that only scientific and reasonable men offer in order to defend their views - without these facts, they have nothing. It inspires pity, really, but I find laughter much more suiting.

I try to steer far away - as far away as a soul can fly - from such worthless and rotten fellows.

Excuse me?

Let me try and decipher a bit more… I work with a lot of pinheads and I will bet my life none of them are in the slightest bit interested in unity and discussion…instead they prefer to get stoned drunk….

They are way more concerned with there appearance and how they are perceived by others more than anything else…ask them to identify the world around them and you'll get a nice vacant stare…

I am relatively confident most of these forum kids are not like that…cripes, they are members of a video game forum!

And that's why I don't play FF. :D

I don't know everything...but then again, I don't agree with shying away from the issues either. Not quite as extreme as DUke in that I actually care somewhat about a social standing, but to each their own.

But nowadays, I only get into these discussions if I'm spoilin' for a verbal flamefest or I feel I have something that hasn't been said yet. Otherwise, I just let the thread go...

But Multani, are you sure you are not on the extreme of things? :) What, have I lied? have I really been extreme? or have I simply removed all ultra-sweet suger and the "consideration" from my posts? It seems to me, Multani, that in order to have a "social standing," first, you must bathe with candy - you must be delicious to devour, heck, delicious to look at, and only then will you gain your "social standing." They say they want consideration, but you know better - they want you to be quite or utter much candy when you speak your mind, only to sweeten that single sorrowful and bitter flavor, a thing which we all like to call "the truth." In very short, they want you dead; in fact, they would not give a damn - as long as you sugar-coat yourself and make yourself pretty, for them above all; for them before yourself too; for them before their noise which they call "the truth of the matter" or "the facts of the matter." At the end, it seems to me that there is a "balance" between one's self and the crowd, thus one gains a social standing - yes, you have to play their game of "give and take": give up your mind and take our attention; give up your speculation, give up your truth and your reason along with that; hand over yourself, if you can as well, and for all this, we will give you more attention, shower you with our smiles and Yes's and Nods, you will gain our "consideration." But let us be honest, it is time to do so - is there anything left to consider of you, after you have freed yourself from all sincerity, from all truth, from all yourself? Having been sugared and camouflaged like the darkest night that hides the most beautiful and shining stars, is there really anything wondrous and alive left to look at? is there any brightness left to consider? Rather, you become empty, a blank sky that looks all the same, from any perspective...and might I say, you become ugly too, for all that shines in you fades willingly in order to tolerate, consider, and be "friendly." Have you not noticed! - they love you under one circumstance: if you detest and despise yourself, only when you let go of yourself...only when you are like them: a slave.

I know you are better. You are simply young still...you still have that innocence about you, that bless'ed ignorance that still wants others to accept it, even if a modest few - even if just few friends and lovers.

They are friends and lovers that curse you best...:) Believe me! But I want you to try it for youself, to go through the experiences yourself...and then, at least, you will be more bent on believing me...

You love yourself: they hate you. You hate yourself: they love you.

DÛke: If you think it's such a useless argument then why are you postin? ; ) to quote a moron.

I know it is your way to propagate your potent but not mortal venom; you like it that way. I am a different type so this discussion does nothing for me, but all I'm really doing wrong is using some bandwidth on Mike's comp.
In life I'm probably going to work in spite of my deficiencies, and thus we will have taken different paths. See you on the other side (or perhaps TheOtherPost).

Ferret: FF boards have morons, a special blend of secretly pretentious, bigoted holier-than-thou-arts. Of course we may all be morons but I tire of the morons that are there most of the time.
I been on a couple of those boards; which one was it you were on? We might know some of the same idiots.

...if you had noticed, recently I have been only posting in a thread I have started, a thread that I exploited and then overpowered, or any thread which has a potential I can exploit, lead astray, and completely devour and then spit out...like this thread. So, I'm not really still posting, I only post when there is a potential to destroy as well...but even that I don't exactly have much time for nowadays (which must be a blessing to some of our resident decadents here - oh, what am I kidding and decieving with my "some"!), I'm busy with writing...

...I occasionally visit here when I want to, or at least attempt to, threaten someone's day, make them feel ashamed that they are here, in this world, make them agree with me even when I know that they would love to disagree, in short: make them feel bad about themselves, shake up their existence, their ideals, their "truth." So I can laugh at them.

And we all have laughed at, but some of us, or most of us, claim that we are laughing with. At last I say: there is no need to feel ashamed of laughing at someone's stupidity and lack of higher taste, in fact, to inform them that they are stupid...but what are the chances that they would understand this "You Are Stupid"? And thus we laugh more. "But the problem is defining stupid!" - thus the stupid man would ask...

Oh, and...sorry...for going off-topic! My bad! My bad!

Knew the first two...

Didn't know the third but could guess at it... it's probably true of any type of board that had a specific game as its focus (Magic included)

Not quite sure what DUke was saying there in his first post 'cause like usual he seems to say more than necessary :), but I have to disagree... only the immature people start the superfluous threads and the only difference between Off-Topic and General Magic is that the latter is geared towards Magic; you'll probably find lots of superfluous threads there too.

And people can have discussions without being stupid... that you endorse such merely shows how much further you have to go... :)

I would love to post which one it is, but I don't want to be accused of bashing a site just because I had a bad experience there...aw, to heck w/ it. It's Final Fantasy Insider. It's a great site to get information about upcoming Final Fantasy rumours and whatnot (kinda' like MTGNews is to Magic), but avoid their forums at all costs - especialy, if you're "a stupid warmongering American".
