my red deck

I got a box full of old cards from a friend of mine, who had stopped playing magic. So I started playing it and I really enjoy it. I saw these cards are all old (until urza saga) and I went to a shop to buy some new cards, to see what has changed since then. I bought a precontructed deck from Torment called 'waking nightmares' and I like this a lot. But it's impossible to win with it against the deck I have made with those old card. Because I'm new to magic I don't think I can make a good deck, so it really surprized me. Tell me what you think about this deck:

23 mountains

2 Mons's Goblin raiders
4 Raging Goblin
4 Goblin Lackey
4 Mogg Fanatic
4 Mogg Flunkies
4 Goblin Matron
1 Goblin King

4 Goblin grenade
4 Fireblast
2 Lightning bolt
2 Incinerate
1 Pytokinesis
1 Goblin Shrine

All my 1/1 creatures with one casting cost have some special ability (Goblin Lackey, Raging Goblin, Mogg Fanatic) except Mons's Goblin raiders. Are there other 1/1 goblins I can put in my deck instead of them that have some abilities?

Thanx

Two good 1 red casting cost creatures: Jackal Pup (not a goblin)and Goblin Patrol. Grim Lavamancer is available now but it's rare. You can try Goblin Balloon Brigade if you fancy a flying goblin, or Goblin Digging Team if you hate walls. Use Goblins of the FLarg if you hate other red players, or Goblin Soothsayer for more damaging happiness. Goblin Lackey recruits more goblins. Goblin Vandal is useful if your enemy has lots of artifacts.

The reason why the newer deck doesn't win against common cards from old sets is because the common and uncommon cards from old sets kick major butt. Today's commons can't possibly compare, unless they're green (aka. Blastoderm and Wild Mongrel). ;)

Yes the old red cards are so good that even when you're a new player you can make decent decks with them :)

Your deck: I would definitely include either Goblin Patrol, Goblin Cadets (both Urza's Saga, Cadets are better if you play vs. decks with few creatures, otherwise use Patrol) or Jackal Pup (Tempest, while not a Goblin, it's still reds best creature for one mana). All three are 2/1 creatures for a mere red mana with varying drawbacks, but still very playable.

from the newer sets I recommend Goblin Ringleader (Apocalypse), it's very good especially in combination with Goblin Recruiter (Visions and 6th Ed.), recruit Goblins with the Recruiter, put the Ringleader on top (or maybe a Lackey and then a Ringleader) and when you play the Ringleader you get 4 Goblins, this makes Goblin Matron look like a joke.

Finally, I really don't think you really need much more 14 1-mana creatures, I would never play Mons Goblin Raiders except for nostalgic reasons, and Raging Goblin is only so-so.

too bad the newest sets, Odyssey and Torment, don't contain any Goblins at all :(

just for reference here's my actual Goblin deck to laugh at: (I don't own many older cards, so I'm missing very good cards like Mogg Fanatic, Lightning Bolt or Fireblast)

4 Goblin Patrol
2 Goblin Cadets
2 Goblin Lackey
2 Raging Goblin (I wish these were Lackeys)
3 Goblin Masons
4 Goblin Raider
4 Goblin Chariot
1 Arms Dealer
1 Goblin King
4 Goblin Ringleader
1 Moggcatcher

3 Firebolt
3 Fire/Ice
4 Arc Lightning
1 Bedlam

1 Keldon Necropolis
20 Mountain

If you have no idea what some of the cards I mentioned do, you can check them out at spoilers.mtgnews.com

I see any creature theme decks like this and I gotta suggest Coat of Arms if you got it :)

Also perhaps Goblin Warrens; create more Goblin tokens from the ones that are about to die! :)
