What!?!

Where is Jazz?

With out Jazz, none of the above would exist to begin with!

...so I vote for Jazz.
(good JAzz, not that Michael Bolton, E-Z listening crap. I'm talkin' Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Billie Holliday, that stuff)

...?

Where's the New Age?

I don't listen to a lot of commercial stuff...though my taste is very free...

...you know, it makes me wanna scream when I hear Mike Oldfield's album "The Songs of Distant Earth"...you know why? Because I can't believe how many people are missin' out on it...most of us are engulfed in the commercial, "popular" stuff...but are forgettin' the stuff that is not so "known", not in the U.S. anyway...

You know, I think you're missin' out A LOT if you don't have "The Songs of Distant Earth".

...not only that, but how could anyone be a true music lover, and not have at least 1 Delerium album?

I happen to have all of them, except for two, and let me tell ya, I've enjoyed every single one. From the early, ambient, industrial nightmare-invoking albums, to the more commercial, pop-like albums. Delerium could be anyone's favorite...it reaches all kind of music fans...

...and what about Enigma? I'm sure you guys are sick of me talkin' about it. You think it's a fuss? Think again...

...what about Dead Can Dance? That's not even a New Age band! Yet not many listen to it...

...I recommend, for your sake, to buy Delerium's Poem and/or Karma if you're a pop/dance fan, like I. Get Delerium's Euphoric if you're a freak (;)). Get Spiritual Archive and/or Syrohphikan if you're dark, unpredictable, and like the unknown.

...no matter what you are, get an Enigma CD (I suggest "The Screen Behind the Mirror). It'll change your life...metaphorically...

...Zadok, being your friend, I really suggest you get Mike Oldfield's "The Song of Distant Earth". I guarantee you, YOU will love it. :)

"Where's the Jazz? Where's the New Age?"

That's what the Other button is for... :)

I put down Pop 'cause that's the best I could come up with for the 80's... (and I like some Madonna and MJ) but 80's is probably an eclectic collection of most of those anyway...

DUke: I don't see that Zadok has replied to this thread yet... are you receiving psychic signals or telepathy? ;)

I did hit the "other" button thankyouverymuch...:)

But Jazz should not be considered an "Other". It's the daddy of them all, baby!

By the way, what's the little code for the Grinning Face and the Mad Face?

I think U2 would be considered "Progresive Rock", which is also where you would catagorize Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Genisis, Emerson Lake and Palmer, The Police, et cetera.

Woo-hoo! "Other" is kickin' ass!

...would consider U2 and the Police to be New Wave, since they rose from that very eclectic era of post-punk music. I think of New Wave more as a style exemplified by the Talking Heads and, as mentioned, the Cure, but some people give it a base that spreads from 2tone ska to rockabilly to mod rock to power pop.

I went with punk rock, primarily because the main shows I go to are ska and punk. I love the energy and the scene, even if the skinheads want to kick my hippie-looking butt.

Rando: That makes you the only person other than me (in one thread and vaguely) on this site to have acknowledged Jethro Tull's existence. I put classic rock by mistake, though, because, being rather young for that time period, I don't know where the line between classic rock and progressive rock is.

The poll is supposed to be ROCK GENRE oriented, sorry about that. If I had to post another poll that could cover all stayles of music, I would really have to generalize like:
1.) World Beat (Any comercial non-western hemisphere music)
2.) Pop Music (Including anything and everything that has a drum beat on counts 2 & 4)
3.) Classical (including Baroque, Renaissance, even 20th century)
4.) Folk Music (Irish, American, Chinese, etc...)
5.) Jazz (including Dixieland, Be-Bop (Bird is da man!), and that Kenny G garbage).
So if I liked Green Day, or Led Zepplin, or Paula Abdul, or Mac Daddy Whoeverinthehell, I would choose #2 (boo-hiss), people don't like to generalize THAT much, whatever.
So, I decided to do Rock Genre but forgot to say so, OOPS!

I just don't see how you can not like things such as Led Zepplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Kiss, etc., so I chose Classic Rock, because Classic Rock is da bomb
