MTGO - really!

I have done the untinkable! I am now playing MTGO!!!!!!

Yesterday I spent the whole day trying to download it and finally I got it going. I opened it up today and found a "Training Room" where you can play 9E pre-cons. Lots of nice people there. Then I click on the Casual Room and boy, what a difference! My first three games in that room where "I quit, you suck!"

My name is: Killer Joe CPA

I will be in the "traing room" mostly after 9 pm Eastern Standard Time for quite a while. I have a deck of UGW 9E cards and it really does suck but they were free because I had a coupon from a 8E two-player starter kit I bought several years ago.

See ya there!

type "/addbuddy CPAlliance The Orgg" when in a chatroom to add me to the buddy list.

Hopefully I'll be able to get on there at some point.

You can add me, too.

"/addbuddy turgy22"

I'll give you some free commons if you'd like, but I'm on very intermittenly. I'll probably be on pretty often in the next couple weeks, though, since Time Spiral is coming out and I always participate in the release events.

Do you get Player Rewards cards in the mail for participating in MTGO tournies?

How much does that cost and do you have to buy anything for it?
It costs something like $20 to register it. But if you're cool with the cardshark and Magic Traders advertisements, and the "please register" popup on loading of the deckbuilder/cataloguing software (has a 5 second timer on it)... yeah... it's free. You can also load in a few other card games and play them if you want instead of magic.

Here's the advertisement reminder:

Most of Magic Workstation's features are available in the shareware version. However some are limited or
restricted. Here is information about what is available in the Registered version of Magic Workstation that is not
available in the Shareware/Unregistered version.

What registering will get you:

* A registration code emailed to you.
* Your code will remove the shareware reminder and banner windows.
* You will also gain access to the registered-only features, such as:
* You can create your own cardsets without limitation (30 cards limit in unregistered version);
* You can test your decks without using "mirror-match" mode;
* You can print more than one page of deck listing and/or proxy card listing;
* Eliminates reminder labels in any output documents (in export menu);
* You can do personal feature request and it will be implemented in next versions;
* You can view your opponent's photo or avatar;
* You gain full access to card ranking management system;
* You gain access to the private part of our forum;
* You gain a personal directory on our server to host your decks and/or misc. info;
* You gain personal support by e-mail;

* A warm, fuzzy feeling that you did the right thing. Without your support, we can't keep adding new features to
Magic Workstation, can't have support people to help you if you have problems, etc.

Your support will help us to develop new versions of MWS and we plan add many powerful features such as:
* Dedicated server for hosting tournaments and ranking system;
* Automated rule checking;
* Voice chat during network game;
* Draft systems;
* ... and many more useful features;

Thanks for your support!

Okay, I'll add those names to my buddy list.

I'm not sure about owning any real virtual cards although I'll probably draft just to draft and will wind up getting new cards that way. I really like playing in the traing room with 9E pre-cons, it's really a tough game to play when you and your opponent knows your deck. Everyone seems to play "Army of Justice" deck so I play all the others alot!

My favorite right now is "World Aflame" (mono-red).

But what I want to know is; are there places to play Multiplayer? Not 2HG either, I mean free-for-all.

No, it does not.

"real" tournaments require a store to run them, drive time, etc.

If you just wanted Player Rewards, you could join every limited event and constructed event starting in the next five minutes, let MOL take your money, and then time out. You'd have about thirty tournaments to your name.

Log back in, do it again. Sixty. That's three Foil Wrath of Gods for half an hour's work and about $80.

Too abusive.

What's the cost of 60 "sanctioned" MTGO events? Or are they free?
Have patience, I've never even seen the software.

I disagree with Orgg, here. Premiere events and constructed tournaments cost $6 to enter, drafts are $2 plus packs. If you entered all those tournaments, you'd be down about $360 for some foil rares, unless I'm misinterpretting something. The only way I could think about getting free player rewards would be to send a complaint that an error occured that caused you to get kicked out of the tourneys. But in that case, I'm pretty sure some red flags would get thrown when the tech support people get your complaint about getting booted from 30 near-simultaneous events. You'd likely not get a refund and be eliminated from player reward contention.

Also, it's interesting because even if there was a way to abuse such a system, the MTGO market tends to even itself out. They give away cards for entering certain events, but no matter what cards are given out, the value of those cards will fall within the general level of what it cost to attain them, usually a bit lower. If there was some way to magically pick up 3 Foil WoGs for cheap, the value of a Foil WoG would drop drastically on the secondary market.

Blah... I'm just trying to find a way to actually get rewarded for playing without having to drive an hour and a half to a tournament and then an hour and a half back home after 8PM...

Yeah, seven years or more in the rewards program and I haven't gotten jack....

I have been judging for 8+ years and rarely get any judge reward cards, but they occasionally send me a player's reward card(s) even though I haven't played in a sactioned event since 8th edition pre-release......(Foil Birds... hehe) go figure.
Just got something the other day for player rewards.......

Judges used to get something, judging by here. But it looks like you have to judge a major event like Grand Prix or Worlds to get it... :)
