MTGNews Woes (again)

Looks like at Midnight Eastern on New Year's, most of the mods at MTGNews quit. I'm looking for info on this, but the owners of MTGNews are deleting all of R_E's posts.

A shame, since this means no more super good spoilers from R_E.

Perhaps *this time* MTGNews will die. Maybe.

(yeah right)

Just have to wait and see what happens when they have only a handful of mods.

MTGnews is still around? Who cares. They's plenty other websites willing to grab up their moles.

BTW what's the scoop. What nerd drama is going on now?

Who cares? They suck anyway. I tried to register a week and a half ago, and they didn't finish it. I e-mailed them, and they still haven't finished it. With that kind of responsiveness, let them rot.

Wow. They're still around? Goes to show how little I pay attention to other Magic-related sites...maybe some of their better writers will come over here and write occasionaly :)

Yeah I basically had the same attitude. But it seems there are a lot of people over there who actually care about their site/community.

In just two days they've managed to get a flourishing community on a totally new forum. Of course, most of it is drama about how much they hate the new owners of MTGNews, but hey, I think they actually care.

Talked to JK about it and he says he's working on getting something about it in the Weekly Shuffle. Maybe that can be a sort of bridge to attract their better writers?

So it changed management? Is that why most of the mods quit? How many did they have?

I don't know if he still writes; usually I get an (mass) email from him saying a new article is at Star City but haven't gotten any recently and I don't check the site myself...

I check the [Vintage section of the] site every now and then and haven't seen any of his articles for a while...

Yeah, the site was sold to new owners and they've operated the site as a front to provide links to their own sites, and to Pojo (which they also own). They also treated their mods like crap so the mods quit the first of this year.

As for Rasko. He took a huge (no, I mean HUGE...no, huger than that--HUUUUUUGE) job where he's like the top attorney writer guy for his whole country, or something of that sort. Kinda takes a lot of his time, I would think. Poor dude even wrote in his final piece at SCG how it would mean he couldn't play or write about Magic anymore.

I miss Rasko and his volumes of text on the latest vintage tech.

I must have missed his last article or missed the part in the last one I read where he said that. That's too bad (for us; great for him :) )

The Pojo? OMG. Unless there has beena major shake up in that company, those are the same people that bought out The Dojo (and ran them into the ground). This should be interesting to watch...

The Pojo bought out The Dojo? I always thought that was USA Media or something, and before that, like Psy-Op or some brainish thing like that.

But yeah, ShuffleandCut and Pojo rule MTGNews now. And not too kindly, either.

Would be nice if that idiot friend of mine would write something about it, soon. *hint hint*

Actually, I believe the company's name was Psylum. They bought out The Dojo before Pokemon became as popular as it was. They did a few good things (like creating the forums that allowed the Founders to find each other and form the CPA), but they also made a few mistakes like allowing anyone to submit articles that were far below the level of writing the prior owner had and I believe that they started putting to much emphasis on The Pojo and less on the Dojo. The end result is easy to see.

Right, Psylum. I knew it was some lame thing like that!

So, Pojo was part of their network? I always thought they called it like the Poke Gym or something like that. Pojo, eh? Wow...

...that's pretty sad. The same forces working on killing MTGNews (again!). When, oh when, will MTGNews finally die?

Nerd drama. Be it a crusade against SCO, the hatred of Lionhead Studios and their craptastic games, or the eternal debate of to book club, or not to book club. Nerds will always find some sort of drama.

Mmm...

While that may be true, I don't believe it just goes for nerds specifically. It's true of just about any group...
