MTG: Software

Hey everyone, recently I was given a copy of the old MTG: software by Interplay from a few years ago. Does anyone know how I can create my own decks to play agianst the software? I know it's an older program and I'm behind the times, but I think this is something I can playtest some of my decks against when I'm not able to use apprentice or play face to face.

Thanks for any info.

When you say "Interplay", do you mean "Microprose"? In other words, is this the game where you wander Shandalar?

Yea, that's it. It has 5 pre-made decks (one of each color) and I'd like to create some decks that I actually use to playtest against the software.
Any other suggestions on software or methods of playtesting?
I'm fairly new to MTG, and it seems like I have a lot of catching up to do.

It should have more than 5 pre-made decks. It has one for each monster in the game.

When you installed the game, a deckbuilder option should have come up, where you can go build your own decks. Then there's a duel option, where you can duel with them (separate). Are they not there?

I only get the 5 decks and don't see any way to create others. There is info in the HELP file about a deckbuilder but I can't see how to get to it. I don't have a game with monsters either. Just a duel or gauntlet option. I must not have the complete game. Any ideas where I can get the complete game? Can I download it somewhere? Any ideas for similar software?

Thanks for your help.

You have the demo/shareware/whatever thing that they put out 4-5 months before the actual thing came out. I killed a lot of time on that thing way back when, but there's no way you can build your own deck in it, sorry.:(

The real thing should cost you just almost nothing, but only if you can find it somewhere. AFAIK, it's not in a downloadable form anywhere. A few months back, a friend of mine found a copy of it in a bargain bin for $8 at a Compusa or somewhere, but that's the only time I've seen it since back when it came out.

Alternatively, if you can find somebody that bought all the different versions of the game, you only need one CD to play, so you might be able to get one of the other CDs from them.

Thanks for your help. That explains it. I'll look in the bargain bins whenever I get a chance (or remember). I appreciate you taking the time to reply and give me the information.

Thanks again.

ps: Sorry, Arhar, that's not me.

You can d/l Magic Suitcase, which has an option to build decks and play them against each other. I haven't had a chance to do so yet though so I'm not sure how it really works.

It can be found at www.perldragon.com

another thing to remember is that there have been some major rules changes since the Microprose game came out so the timing rules are very different. now I have the old Microprose game as well as Duel of the Planeswalker and Spells of the Ancients. I have played them and would be willing to trade them for Magic cards or money. I also have the disk from a starter box for classic. this gives you a better understanding of the current rules. pm your address and I can send it to you if you want.

Hey Spiderman, thanks for the link and info on Magic Suitcase. I'll download it and see if I can figure it out. Hopefully, it'll have a manual with it.

rkoelsch,
thanks for the reminder on the timing and the offer of the cd. I actually have the starter cd for 7th but want something to create and playtest decks. Hopefully the suitcase will do the trick.

Thanks for the help everyone. This is probably the most helpful board I visit.
