Monogreen Bear-theme

Hello!
Long time since my last post, but now I think I need the CPA-communitys thoughts on this strange theme (that is if anyone cares..)

its supposed to be monogreen on a budget. I havent played it yet, so its not in any way trimmed.

mana:

9 forest
4 land grant
4 hickory woodlot
4 havenwood battleground
4 mind stone

creatures:
4 grizzly bears
4 balduvian bears
4 spectral bears
4 werebear
2 caller of the claw
4 grizzly fate

boost:
4 giant growth
4 seal of strength
2 alpha status

stuff:
3 winter orb

as you probably can imagine, this is about threshold, and about winter orb.
But is it the right way? Is my non-basics just not good enough, and should I play wastelands insted? I like these, because they are cheap, and noone plays them :)
Should I cut mind stones? Should I play urzas baubble? Did I miss something good? Any suggestions (pre-eigth :) ) are welcome.

btw bearscape doesnt work, since it doesnt fit well with threshold or winter orb. Striped bears are too expensive with winter orb, and kamahls summons have no real point.

Do you face a lot of non-basics? If so, use Wasteland.

I'd put in Rancor either in place or in addition to the Seals or Giant Growth. Although you get them back from the graveyard so they don't add to threshold, I think it's worth it... you continually get a +2 to power and trample to your creatures, which adds to the beatdown.

thanks for your suggestions!

I´ll consider rancor, because now I dont think alpha status is worth it. Maybe skip 1 mindstone too.
Elvish spirit guide would be nice, but he´s a non-bear-card elf:(
Equipcards are to ugly to be allowed, and WoW is only good in some kind of combo (maybe striped bears and mindstones is "combo" enough? -but striped bears sucks with winter orb. It´s incredible with sylvan library, but I think thas is another deck -maybe better).
Overrun is of course an ok possibility, but I like tricks and synergy more than power :)
Testing will show about the non-basics, but unfortunately I dont play much, so I dont know yet.

yes, he is an elf, but he makes bears, and so fits in a bear theme. Of couse I would prefer if he was a legend, or a "mummy bear".

I took out 1 forest for 1 pendelhaven, and 2 alpha status and 1 hickory fottlot for 4 rancors. This will be the deck I think. Rancors are broken , but playing "stompylike" without them is difficult, and I think they give the deck the boost it needs to do ok. Maybe caller of the claw will go too. Not because he doesnt fit the theme, but I´m not sure he is good enough.

just totally pass on the overrun if you are keeping the winter orbs you can't use over run.

Well, most of the spells are pretty cheap so you shouldn't be affected too much by the Orb. You should have a good mana base to play it, especially with the Battlegrounds.

I don't see why you use winter orb. If it is for control, it seems that it won't be enough. Sure you can take advatage of it by having lower costing spells, and using bear mana, but I think I would take them out to add in more beatdown. Just a thought.

Battleground and woodlot makes it possible to play a few more expensive spells, but I dont think I can play both overrun and grizzly fate. More testing has shown that even the 4 grizzly fates can be a problem. I also think that finding space for overruns isnt easy.

Theres a bear on it :)

And besides, it works fine with werebear, and the thresholdcards havenwood battleground, hickory woodlot and mine stones.
Adding winter orb to beatdown isnt such a new idea. It should be ok.

Winter Orb's a great way to slow down your opponent, especially if they aren't using alternate mana sources. It's worth not having more beatdown in there.

The decision to use Overrun is up to you, if you can fit it, great, if not, that's okay too :)

Artifact mana sources......Horn of Ramos...or Moss Diamond/G Talisman....Maybe Emerald Medallions.....Maybe a Rofellos....some creature or artifact mana to keep you up while your opponent is down

Looking at some of your choices.....spectral bears's downside leaves you with one less attacker. I would replace with Words of Wilding

So a possible decklist...keeping in mind this is a budget deck.

"Winter/Polar Bears"

Stall: 3

3 Winter Orb

Mana: 21

13 Forest
4 Land Grant
4 Talisman of Unity

Creatures: 26

4 Llanowar Elves
4 Grizzly Bears
4 Balduvian Bears
4 Words of Wilding
4 Werebear
2 Caller of the Claw
4 Grizzly Fate

Creature Pump: 10

4 Seal of Strength
2 Alpha Status
4 Wild Might

Wild Might works great as a cheap +5/+5 especially with the Orb.
I also added 4 Llanowar Elves as creature mana. You have 8 creature sources, 4 artifact sources, and 4 Land searchers for mana along with the forests.

I hope this helps

Hmmm...thanks for your suggestions, but I have the feeling that you missed some points from earlier in this thread.

Wild might is an interresting possibility, which I vaguely considered (because of winter orb). Maybe I should test it. But I think giant growth is better. Often you need the mana more than the ekstra +2/+2

it would be interesting to go b/g with conspiracy...

other than that - isn't primal frenzy another bear picture card?...

overrun does have bears on it...

and something like soul foundry can make massive bear tokens...

Primal frenzy would be nice, since it has a bear on it. But giving small bears trample doesnt make that much sense. Soul foundry is too ugly (like all Mirrodin cards). Why conspiracy? My creatures are bears anyway.

well - the conspiracy gives you the ability to turn anything out there into a bear...

"hello dragon... I mean bear..."

The frenzy didn't make much sense - but it fit the theme well... and werebear becomes a 4/4 - which isn't so small, especially after being boosted by your "boosting" spells...

I think something is missing from the deck - I'll see what I can find...

*spends time on net...*

Okay...

I know you're missing pale bears - can't beat an added ability of islandwalk...
Striped bears also have the card advantage...

Would you play with Portal?

Here's a list...

Golden Bear - 4/3 - G3
Razorclaw bear - 3/3 (+2/+2 if blocked) - GG2
River Bear - 3/3 Islandwalk - G3
