Art Modell didn't make it into the Hall of Fame! Art Modell didn't make it into the Hall of Fame! They're dancing in the streets in Cleveland!

Anybody that saw my rants when the Ravens were in the Super Bowl knows my feelings on this guy. I'm so happy right now.:)

Tralala-la-la, tra-la-laaaaaa!

This time around... (not that I have any feelings on any side over this, just wanted to point that out). :)

Very true.:(

I heard that the debates over Modell were the longest and loudest of any of the candidates. He was looking to be in good shape until Tony Grossi, a reporter for the Plain Dealer here in Cleveland, went up in front of the panel and gave a very impassioned plea against him. I love Tony Grossi.

Unfortunately, the stupid Patriots went and won the Super Bowl. My two least favorite guys in professional sports have won the Super Bowl the past two years. What's up next year? Osama Bin Laden leads the Giants all the way?

I did find it very interesting that a pretty pathetic "Patriots" team suddenly turned it around not long after 9/11 and won 9 games in a row to win the Super Bowl (with the help of some very interesting officiating all the way).

Grrr.

I didn't read it too closely 'cause I'm not too interested in this :), but it was the opinion/speculation of the reporter who covered this in the Sun that Grossi has a personal bias against Modell and that that may be slightly inappropriate in carrying it over in "the business".

The only bias Grossi has against Modell is based on the fact that he lied to the city of Cleveland ("I would never consider moving the Browns"), then took our team and ran.

Beyond that, there's nothing personal. It's not like Modell insulted Grossi's mother.

Fact is, Modell has contributed practically nothing to the NFL. Rather, he has lost a lot of their money, then alienated one of their best markets for a short-term money fix, still couldn't stay afloat, and is now giving up his team to another investor. There is no basis at all for putting him in the Hall other than simple seniority.

Well, beats me. You probably know more about this than I do 'cause as I said, I don't really follow this stuff. :)

Randomly adding on to this thread...

What was reported in the Baltimore Sun was actually a violation of a confidentiality agreement among all the Hall Of Fame Voters. Basically, the reporter agreed he wouldn't discuss it and then went home and smeared it in the paper.:)

But since it was reported, the agreement is sorta off and Grossi has written his own account of what he said in there (people have come out and said that the Baltimore account wasn't accurate). To see what Grossi has to say about it, anybody that cares can look here:

Isn't talking about football and reporters in the same post illegal or something? It scared the pants off of me (literally) when I saw it.

Good rebuttal; Grossi sounds like an honest guy. Although he himself says the details of the meeting were "leaked", not that the Baltimore Sun reporter broke the agreement and smeared it :)

That's true. I worded it badly; somebody (not necessarily from Baltimore) said he wouldn't say anything, then told the paper.
