Yep. We should probably get rid of all the vaccines that prevent polio, malaria, etc. I mean, why take shots before you visit overseas? Help the drug companies!

Well the polio one at least was created by one guy, who obviously had no qualms about reducing the profits of the medical industry off polio...

But I don't know that any viral diseases are "cured." Smallpox was eradicated by vaccine, for example, not cure...

However, now there are inferions, but I haven't looked into those yet, so I don't know how well they work...

-_-;; someone get Spidey a glass of water, he just made a rhyme that will prolly end up in some drug company advertisement.

Oh, and its not really all that hard to make a vaccine... just pop the virus into a chicken egg, and keep transfering it till you end up with a virus that is very good at killing chickens and not people.

Bloody drug companies making a fortune off of such a simple thing.

Well, it doesn't work as well with retroviruses, thanks to how much they mutate, which changes their capsid (external, proteinaceous part of the virus) structures to something that the old antibodies can no longer work against...

One of these guys was tellin' me about how they were going to engineer a virus that would specifically target another virus... something like mutate along with it so that you wouldn't have any threat anymore.

But then he fell asleep on me before he finished his sentance... I hate it when these guys do that.

I know that there special viroids (little guys made of genetic material with no protein covering and, if I remember correctly, typically found in plants) called virusoids which attach themselves to viruses for transportation to host cells. That is pretty cool...

The polio vaccine may have been created by one guy, but its production today is still done by the "drug companies"...

And yes, those diseases aren't truly "cured", but eradicated if there's no one around left to carry it... which still amounts to the same thing.

Unfortunately, it's the small number of African countries who refuse to be vaccinated as an official policy, so that's why they're going to stay around... you might as well say they're behind the "drug companies profits" (or the companies are paying them)

you'd think they'd pay them more for carrying around diseases...;)

I know you'd have to pay me a lot. Polio especially: I can't even think of the size of the sum of money big enough for that...

Well lemme think...

Technically I don't exist, so I'm worth diddley squat... When I retire I'll get nothing except a pat on the back, a gold watch with some cheery thing on the back, and a hefty sum of money to get myself lost.

I'm fine, don't need anything you commoners got... or anything they're brewing up in the labs for that matter.
