I've always wanted to build Suicide black. I love the deck, just like Necro it is fits perfectly in the flavor of the color. There was always a problem with me building the deck, I'm not a fan of 3 turn games, and I tend to play in multiplayer games where suicide black simply cannot win. So going along with my theme of Az's variants of great decks(my necro and secret force are pretty different from the originals, and quite the masterpieces if i do say myself) I present the toned down version suicide black: Manic Depressive Black.
Creatures: 17 (the creature base stays pretty much the same, it has one big difference, replacing Dauthi horrors with Exalted Angels)
4x Phyrexian Negator(3 for 5/5 with trample, putting your opponent on a 4 turn clock during your first turn is worth the draw back)
4x Dauthi Slayer(I've always loved this card, probably my favorite "bear" of all time. simply a great cheap evasion creature)
4x Carnophage(more cheap beat, in short, never mess with a good thing)
4x Exalted Angel( keeping myself alive, while beating my opponent in the face with arguably the best angel ever printed, its good...very good)
1x Desolation Angel(this is in here for flavor purpose, but it does come in really handy. wrecking you opponents lands is kinda fun, but more often than not a cheap 5/4 flier is worth knocking out you lands, hey you really only need three anyway)
Other Spells: 26
4x Sarcomancy( a 2/2 zombie for B that gives you a "free" permanent to sac to a negator is always cool, so no reason to take this card out of the deck)
4x Dark Ritual( speed is good, especially with some of the heavier modifications)
4x Duress(this also stays in from the original, disruption is always cool, taking the best card from your opponents hand for B is priceless)
4x Swords to Plowshares( these are a new addition, they serve two purposes, the first is obviously to knock out pesky blockers, or annoying things like Ali from Cairo and Platinum Angel, but the second is to gain life from a dying negator, instead of sacing permanents)
4x Orim's Chant( serving much the same purpose as duress, only slightly more annoying, it can also assure you win the damage race against other aggressive decks)
4x Promise of Power( This takes the place of Demonic Consultation, since it isn't as aggressive, but is still a great card. Necro for 5, put out an evasion creature, or both in the late game! plus I've definetly got a set of those spiffy demon tokens, so how can I not play this card.)
2x Hatred( I lower the number by one from the original deck, simply because I want it to be less aggressive, but still to pack a punch. My favorite play is to attack someone with a slayer, Hatred for 18 put damage on the stack then swords my slayer, I had Zadok applauding that play)
Lands: ( the lands are self explanatory)
4x Scrubland
4x Tainted Field
14x Swamp
The deck is fun to play, and works very well in multiplayer, and shines brightest in duels. Its currently type one, but if you want to make it extended here are the recommended changes:
- 4 dark ritual
- 4 swords to plowshares
- 4 Scrubland
- 1 swamp
+4 Caves of Koilos
+4 Vindicate
this'll bring you down to 60 cards, and the vindicates will be able to deal with anything you can't duress out of their hands.
